Visited the Fat Olives last weekend
Meet with a warm welcome & asked what table we would like to sit at
The service & meal were great Starters The pastry caramelised onion tart & tuna
Main course Loin of Lamb & Trout
Presentation excellent & taste even better

The one thing I would say is the Fat Olive just lacked a little but of atmosphere
Ideal place if your planning a special occasion with someone special

Having previously stayed at this wonderful restaurant with rooms, I was keen to try the main event - the food. We opted for the 7 course tasting menu which was nothing short of superb. Barbecued beetroot with charred courgette and goaty curd. Skate wing and kale in a broth, crisp lamb belly with radishes followed by Barbary duck. It sounds a lot and I haven't mentioned the desserts (plural) but portions were small and we came out feeling very very well fed with this delightful food without feeling over full. It's not cheap but you can really see why and I believe it is worth every penny. Superb and I really look forward to another visit.

I had an excellent 3 course dinner and evening at this great restaurant. The Giovanni Melazane al Forno as my main with spiced aubergine was very tasty. So were my starter and Tiramisu. I enjoyed the authentic Italian food and quiet atmosphere. I can't wait to go again soon. Andy, Emsworth

We had had a wonderful morning in Winchester Cathedral for our daughter's graduation, we drove back to where she lives in Havant and she said i have just the place for lunch Dad.I must admit the pub did not look great from the outside but the lunch we had was superb. I had a pheasant dish followed by five local Hampshire Cheeses. This was washed down by a couple of pints of local beer. Lovely meal in a small but cosy pub.Very friendly staff which helped make an already special day even more memorable.

I have eaten at this Restaurant many times since it first opened and was always impressed by its innovative dishes and focus on locally sourced ingredients. However the last couple of visits have been disappointing.
My main criticisms are as follows;
1) Menu is tired with the same dishes featuring every time: brisket, steak, bavette.
2) Inconsistency with presentation. Some dishes feature just the meat and a little garnish, others come with a full helping potatoes, veg, etc
3) I had a poor fish dish which consisted of a lump of bony, rather tasteless fish. When i mentioned this to the waitress she did take it back to have the bones removed but I do feel that if one orders fish in a restaurant it should come with the bones removed. A piece of steamed bony fish without much in the way of any garnish was a great disappointment considering it cost £20.
4) Desserts. Too much emphasis on jokey quirkiness (Mr Whippy) rather than focusing of flavour and quality of ingredients.
5) Service. There used to be a charming waitress who greeted everyone as if they were one of the family. The waitress when I last visited was somewhat frosty, especially after I complained about the fish.
I was really pleased when the Richmond Arms first appeared in the Good Food Guide but feel now that it has fallen below the threshold for a fine dining restaurant.
The chef needs to get back to basics. Focus on locally sourced quality ingredients cooked simply. Refresh the menu. Revise the desserts. Wit and irony are for comedians not chefs.

We found this by chance and what serendipidy. Utterly charming, nearly full but with a regular turnover of patrons who unlike us seemed all to be there because they knew it and likely were regulars. A testament in itself. Warm friendly service. Excellent hot chocolate with a mince pie and cream. Just the job towards the end of our wander around Emsworth - in itself a rewarding explore.....

The Blue Bell Inn

The Blue Bell Inn Emsworth Public House offers a comfortable space in which to meet friends and socialise and is well stocked with a wide range of Real ales some of which are local, lagers, wines and spirits. The Blue Bell has developed a reputation for delivering fine food at reasonable prices under the watchful eye of owner Giles and head chef Steve. See what the fuss is about. Only yards from the harbour quay, this busy local is at the heart of the community, its the perfect spot for a drink or a bite to eat after a walk around the harbour. We pride ourself on the quality of the food at The Blue Bell, with it all being made in house, and using local suppliers were ever possible which helps support the local economy.

We have enjoyed the Blue Bell many times. The latest being with friends on a busy Friday evening. It’s always busy here so book ahead.
Whilst known for splendid Fish & Chips the menu and especially the daily specials offer much more. The quality matches the generous portions so value is assured. You can enjoy Scallops, belly pork, lasagne and more.
The Blue Bell serves good local beers and the wine list is better than you get in many pubs. It is a busy local so expect a bit of bustle but it’s very friendly and service is helpful. It is popular because it is genuine, plays to its strengths and avoids any unnecessary pretentiousness. We will keep going

The Lord Raglan

The Lord Raglan is an 18th Century traditional pub, backing on to the Slipper Mill Pond and the River Ems. This lively pub is well known locally for its friendly atmosphere, great food and top notch real ale. There is an exciting selection of dishes to enjoy from bar snacks to three course meals - the sizzles and steak and mushroom pie are a must, very tasty. Weekends are very busy so it is well worth booking a table if you wish to eat. Sunday evening is live music night which is hugely popular and has a regular following and draws a friendly mixed crowd.

A return visit to this venue never disappoints. Good food, good atmosphere which was created by a very impressive band. Make sure you book a table as it does get very busy. Nice garden too (if the weather is good) will be returning in September -check out the Trevor John Band - you will not be disappointed.

Quiet when I arrived, with only one other table occupied. Was full by the time I left. Food good, not outstanding, but acceptable. Service was definitely not with a smile & quite random & not at all attentive. I'm afraid I did not feel welcome at all. There is plenty of choices food wise in Emsworth & a new Indian opening soon so I don't think I will be hurrying back to this one!
