Humarhofnin

Experience the unique taste of the local Icelandic lobster/langoustine, in the charming restaurant Humarhofnin by the harbour in the fishing village Hofn.

Reviewed By EllaTsai

We went to Humarhofnin for dinner on Tuesday night without reservation, and surprisingly there were only 5-table guests. The atmosphere was good the waitresses were friendly and polite.
We ordered the highly-recommended food, A Grand mix of whole langoustine and tails and langoustine pizza, for the first time trying. The langoustines were fresh and went perfectly with their dipping sauces (black sauce and pink sauce). And the pizza was alright, the crust was crispy but we didn't really taste the langoustines.
However, with the price we spend in Humarhofnin, we went out without being full.

Kaffi Hornid

Kaffihornid - About us Kaffi Hornid brings the best local ingredients to the table right on Hofn's main road sits Kaffi Hornid, where you can find seafood brought straight from sea to the table and a tempting selection of dishes from filling plates of lamb to salads topped with chicken or lobster. Soup is served daily with homemade bread and a salad bar is open for guests who want a small but filling lunch. The menu is large, with sea food and local specialities like lamb and beef featuring prominently, although vegetarians are not left out as a dish of pan-fried chickpea cutlets remains one of the more popular dishes. This restaurant and cafe, with airy Cathedral ceilings and ample Seating for guests has been successful since opening in 1999, alternating as a restaurant, cafe and bar. Kaffi Hornid's owners, husband and wife Ingolfur Einarsson and Kristin Oladottir, have made good use of Hofn's prized local food: the langoustine. Found just off Hofn' s coast and widely celebrated as a town delicacy, the lobster-like creature known as langoustine features prominently in Kaffi Hornid's menu with an entire section devoted to dishes showcasing the succulent shellfish in every price range. The langoustine is distinguished from lobster because it is much smaller and its meat is said to be sweeter. While plentiful in Europe anwaters, langoustines, better known as scampi, are scarcely found in North America and whenever served at restaurants they have been shipped frozen because their delicate meat does not survive the journey. Fortunately for Hofn and Kaffi Hornid the langoustines are freshly caught each day for visitors to taste. Fresh fish, also caught daily, lamb and beef from nearby farms and chicken dishes round out the menu. Pizzas are made to order with a special langoustine pizza for guests who want to try a twist on toppings. Icecream made at Arbaer, a dairy farm a few kilometres from Kaffi Hornid, tantalises visitors with homemade flavours like chocolate licoric.

The menu has a whole section for Langoustine and I tried the Langoustine pizza
My Friend tried the Reindeer burger and he said it did not taste gamey and was pleasant.

Finished driving across the highlands, the last part in thick fog, so needed some coffee and a rest. This place has a neat retro vibe with lots of books, and served good coffee and bakery treats. Also soups though we did not try them. Clean restroom. We picked up some croissants later for our next day picnic, wish they opened earlier.

We had dinner in the Gistihusid on 26.08.2017. We were at first seated right at the entrance of the restaurant next to the children's playroom. Since the kids playing there had a lot of fun and thus loud, I asked for an other table, which was granted. After all, when eating here for these kind of extraordinary high prices, I don't want to sit next to screaming kids.
The food was absolutely delicious and worth the price. Service is perfect and attentive.

The Skaftfell Bistro seemed the best of very few dining options in the town and we were able to enjoy reasonable meals in the cafe setting. Prices were expensive but that's standard practice for tourists in Iceland. Fortunately it's a pretty town worth the one day visit.

My husband and I had supper here in August and it was fantastic! He enjoyed the reindeer pie and I loved the keish. The staff were all so plesent and we also purchased some preserves that are made at the restaurant as well. The both of us were able to eat for around 80$ CAN which isn't to bad regarding the prices in Iceland and the quantity and quality of the meal. We would like to go back for the lunch buffet but unfortunately will are leaving the area tomorrow to continue our trip on the ring road. 100% recommended!!!

Pakkhus Restaurant

Open all year round. Pakkhus Restaurant is located by the harbour of Höfn. The menu offers variety of local food from the surrounding environment like lamb, fish, lobster (langoustine) and many other choices.

Reviewed By Moybien93 - New Jersey

When visiting the lobster capital of Iceland, one must get some Icelandic lobster (langoustines). And what better place to get them than Pakkhus Restaurant. The restaurant used to be an old shipping warehouse I believe and there are still stamps on the walls from when it was used for such means. The food is fresh and locally caught/sourced. There were many great options on the menu from the lamb to seafood. However I opted for the langoustine tails. I was surprised at how many langoustine tails arrived on the plate. They were sweet and delicious. I left very pleased.
The restaurant does not take Reservations, but there is plenty of Seating in this 2 story building. The first floor is a waiting area with a bar. If you find that you do have to wait for a table just remember you will not be disappointed.

Hotel Aldan has different buildings in Seydisfjordur, one is the Hotel (with rooms, etc.) and another separate building always called Hotel Aldan which is the restaurant.
The place attracts for its simple but well-groomed detail: with candles, large windows and warmth of the rooms, never exaggerating, it is cozy and you feel right. The service then stands out to be dynamic and simple (menu on the blackboard, placemats). Everything very easy and very cozy. Menu between good and very good with the excellent entree, a great plate of local specialties, three meat and three fish good quality offerings and calling for sharing. Great value for money also and despite the cost of spirits always prohibitive for Mediterranean Europeans. The positive note of this is that it is very difficult to get drunk at the restaurant ...

Kaffi Lara - El Grillo Bar

Kaffi Lára - El Grilló bar is located in the heart of Seyðisfjörður and is known for its local beer and grill. This friendly pub offers the authentic atmosphere of the eastfjords as well as being the town pub of the locals which makes it a great spot for socializing and meeting the people of Seyðisfjörður. The pub serves their famous BBQ plates which includes fresh cuts and catches including greens and baked potatoes for hungry visitors looking for a cheap eat at a homemade quality standard. Kaffi Lára is named after Lára, a local legend that lived in the house for decades. Before the bar came in to existence the house was simply known by the name: Láras House. The house is over a hundred years old and is a famous landmark for being a protected building because it's important part of the Seyðisfjörður history. There was a great fire in 2012 that left the house in a bad condition and there was no forecast of it ever being the same again but the people of the town gathered together in support to Kaffi Lára and made it possible to rebuild it and therefor we still have our proud landmark today. El Grilló is our very own beer that is made from the recipe og grandfather Eyþór. He got the recipe in his dream, where the tail says that old Lára came to him in his sleep telling him the secret ingrediences.

We try the ribs and it was unbelievably good and the price is reasonable. While other food is such as Fish & chips is also excellent, we would highly recommend this place if you happened to stop by at town Seydisfjordur. Price is still expensive which is common in Iceland but better than other Iceland restaurant we have tried before.
