Jokulsarlon Lagoon

Reviewed By NL_Koen - Oldenzaal, Overijssel, Netherlands

We've visited this place today. I'd agree with everyone else it's a must see. It wasn't as impressive now, end March, as I see on many photos here. Only two large ice chunks were floating in the water. Nice to see but not super spectacular. The glacier a little bit further down the ring 1 towards Reykjavik was more impressive. Large parking lot. Free of charge. Clean free restrooms in the white building where you can book the ice cave tour. The diamond beach right across the road was lovely. Our kids of 1.5 and 3 very much enjoyed playing in the black sand, with the beautiful rocks and the large ice chunks washed ashore. We also saw a seal struggling to get through the current into the water pool at the glacier.

This was a great place to park the camper over night. When we woke up the next morning, we had an entire park to discover! Great trails, and an informative information centre. Perfect stop for those travelling through!

Svartifoss Waterfall

Reviewed By Tara A - Nashville, Tennessee

I really enjoyed this hike. The scenery was beautiful, and we passed several smaller Waterfalls along the way (some of which were still frozen - beautiful!). However, the signs denoting this as an "easy" hike were a bit deceiving. It was all uphill! Granted, it's a fairly short hike (about 3 miles roundtrip, I think), and the path is very accessible (smooth), but it is a long way uphill. My mom (in her early 60s) really struggled with it and had to stop a little short of the waterfall. It is lovely and the views are beautiful, just be prepared for the constant uphill incline.

Hofn Swimming Pool

Reviewed By Jennifer B - Richmond, United States

We visited the Hofn pool early evening on a cool drizzling day. We hesitated because let's be honest, it's hard to get in your bathing suit and go into a pool when it's cold outside. It was well worth it. The water slides were fun (even for 45 year olds) and there were multiple hot tubs at different temperatures, a lap pool, and a ice bath. We went in each and had a wonderful time. The showers and locker room are very clean. It was very relaxing and enjoyable. I highly recommend it.

Svinafellsjokull Glacier

Reviewed By LifeAtlasTravel - West Des Moines, Iowa

By taking a short hike from the parking area you can get very close to the tongue of the glacier. I had heard you could walk on the glacier, but due to melting I didn't see that the hiking trail could get you to the glacier any more. Still a very nice hike with great scenery.

Svinafell Glacier

The road leading to the glacier was really bumpy with potholes all over. I guess that this was a factor why tour buses do not drive tourists in. The views are awesome! I had a lot of good aerial photography.

The visitor centre has 3 floors: First floor is just toilets and storage lockers, second floor is the visitor centre with brochures and staff to answer your questions, as well as a small exhibition on the second and third floors. Interesting exhibition on the history...MoreDear Ong M Thank you so much for taking the time to review us! Hope the rest of your travel was nice! Best regards, Steinunn Hödd
