This is a pretty church in a lovely little historical town. The town is worth a look and is one of the prettiest in Iceland.

Gufufoss

To visit when you're in the area! While staying in Seydisfjordur, we discovered this waterfall on one of our trips when leaving the valley. Very easy to reach and really beautiful. Best to visit in the morning or early afternoon when the sun is shining on the waterfall.

Skaftfell - Center for Visual Art

Skaftfell, est 1998, operates in the field of contemporary art on a international level. It’s activities are based upon Exhibitions and events, alongside a residency and education program. The curatorial focal point is a high-quality mix of progressive contemporary art and traditional art, either by domestic or international artists. A Bistro is located on the ground floor.

So this is right above the Bistro Skaftfell so we stopped by after we had finished eating and drinking downstairs. This center is definitely full of only modern art which I'm not necessarily as familiar with or enjoy; however, the descriptions of some of the pieces were neat. If you're really into art or if you are having a meal downstairs, I would recommend people to visit it.

Technical Museum

Museum in authentic houses and surroundings. Project orientated Exhibitions seek to envisage the arrival of modern times in Iceland and the rich history of a unique town that played a key roll in the social and economic development of one of Europe's poorest and most isolated countries around 1900. Includes Icelands first telegraph station, East Iceland's first hydro-elecric plant and mechanical shop, a printshop, foundry and numerous other machinery and trivia. Fun and freindly.

For such a small town to have the potential to have such a significant museum is a feat unto itself. Seydisfyordur has quite a history, technology speaking, and a lot of it has been gathered and cobbled together in this rather large museum. It could use with some organizing and better documentation but that is probably a function of not having enough money to do everything that is needed to bring it up to par. However there is a large collection of many things that have a lot of history and are interesting. Just be aware that its all sort of crammed together without a lot of logic or detailed information. Definitely worth a visit if you're in town and leave a little extra cash in the jar at the door so they can continue to improve the place.

Tvisognor

Reviewed By IowaMum - Des Moines, Iowa

Tvisongur is a fairly new (2012) site-specific sound sculpture by the German artist Lukas Kühne and is located on a mountainside above the town of Seydisfjordur. There is a hike up to this set of five concert domes which hold musical sound. There is a car park across from the Fish Factory on the road out of town if you would like to drive here to park for the hike. The hike up to the sculpture takes about 10 to 20 minutes depending on your fitness level and climbing speed. Plan to spend at least 10 -20 minutes in the domes and then the hike back down takes another 10 to 20 minutes. Being in the domes is interesting. There is a spot near the front (looking out towards the water) in which if one person is near the open door and another person is at the joins of the domes and whispers, it is as if they are talking loudly and directly to the person at the door even though they are far away (like the Whispering Wall in St Paul's Cathedral, London). If you sing, the domes magnify the sound and tones and it is quite lovely, especially if you sing spiritually oriented songs. The domes are each large and the five domes together cover a large area on the hill. Overall, they are designed to be site specific and fit into the landscape. The view from the domes of the city below is quite beautiful and worth the hike up by itself, even if you do not like the starkness of the concrete domes or the sounds they create.

Streitisviti Lighthouse

Reviewed By HrefnaIM - Breiddalsvik, Iceland

The lighthouse it self is nice but what is great is the surrounding area. The stunning rocky coastline and it is also a good place for a short hike.
