Where to Eat in Bosa: The Best Restaurants and Bars

December 25, 2017 Terina Blouin

Bosa is a town and comune in the province of Oristano (until May 2005 it was in the province of Nuoro), part of the Sardinia region of Italy. Bosa is situated about two-thirds of the way up the west coast of Sardinia, on a small hill, about 3 kilometres (2 miles) inland on the north bank of the Temo River. The town has maintained a population of around 8,000 people for a significant amount of time, but has an urban character that has differentiated it from other locations in Sardinia. Agriculture and fishing play an important part in the city economy, thanks to the river valley near the coast surrounded by hills and highland plateaus.

Da Giancarlo e Rita at Hotel Mannu

We went to Mannu twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. The waiter at lunch was fantastic and the service was perfect. In addition to the crisp flatbread and regular bread served in most of the restaurants in Sardegna, Mannu also served bread slices that had been baked with olive oil; like large croutons. They are absolutely wonderful. In fact, when we return for dinner we told the waiter we only wanted the bread that had been baked with olive oil.
At lunch I ordered an antipasta called Razza al Agliata. Agliata is a semi-spicy tomato sauce with lots of garlic served with a mild fish. This is a specialty of Bosa and I strongly recommend it. I had it a number of times and it was always wonderful. For our primo my wife and I both got the spaghetti allo Scoglio which had scampi, lobster, calamari and mussels in a tomato sauce. It was excellent.
We arrived for dinner about 8 and there was almost no one in the restaurant. The service again was excellent. For our antipasti I ordered Gattuccio in Agliata and my wife ordered the seafood soup which turned out to be more like a stew that had a small lobster, a whole shrimp, mussels, scallops, cannolicchio, black beans and tomatoes. My wife said it was very good. She ordered a second antipasto of cooked vegetables which turned out to be a large bowl containing zucchini, green beans, cauliflower, carrots and a small potato. They had been boiled. For my primo, I ordered fish ravioli in the chef's sauce. The sauce consisted of sautéed tomatoes, wild asparagus, shrimp and other seafood. I thought it was very good.
I notice that around 9:30 the restaurant started to fill up. There was only one waiter and two assistances. I could tell that the service was starting to bog down because there were just not enough waiters. We were finished by this time so we were not affected by the slowdown in service. But I mention this only to suggest that if you going for dinner you should arrive around eight and not later in the evening.

We had an oke dinner in the restaurant. The waitress was friendly and helpfull.
We were welcomed at the restaurant with nice little amuses. With very fine different tastes in a little spoon.
Bread and oil were fine.
The choice for vergetarians, not eating fish or meat is not very big at the menu, but they were prepared to make something special.
The tastes were great.
The main corse of one of us was not very warm, but they resolved that. Only my husband almost finished his plate when my dinner finally arrived for the second time.
I was disappointed about that, because it was really quiet in the restaurant. Only three tables were occupied: in total 5 guests, so serving a cold plate is never nice but with such a little number of guests I only can explain it as not indifference and therefor it is shameful.
The espresso was also not really hot.
So at the end we had to pay €80 for this experience.

All the Seating was outside on the sidewalk which runs along the edge of the river. When we arrived, there was only one table available but it was in the sun. I noticed two tables in the shade that were not set up. I asked the waitress if she could set up one of the tables in the shade because we didn't want to sit in the sun. She said she didn't have time to set up a table and if we wanted a table we needed to sit in the sun. About that time another couple arrived, and they did not want to sit in the sun either. So the owner came out and set up the two tables in the shade. When the waitress bought us our menus it was obvious that she was still irritated with us for not sitting at the table in the sun. Her not-so-friendly manner continued for some time, but as the restaurant thinned out and she was under less stress she became more and more friendly. Towards the end of our meal she was extremely friendly and turned out to be one of the best waitresses we've ever had. One thing that caught my attention was the waitresses' fingernails. They were so unusual I took a picture of them which I have attached. She does them herself and it takes her two hours.
I had the antipasto of affettati and cheese and the ravioli for my primo. For her antipasto, my wife had the terrine of duck with red onion marmellata and a primo of sesame seed encrusted tuna and julienne strips of zucchini. For dessert we split a seada that was by far the best we had the whole time we're in Sardegna. This saeda was covered with both powdered sugar and honey. A sevada, also called seada, is a fried pastry filled with lemon flavored cheese and is drizzled with honey or powered sugar or both. It is a specialty of Sardegna and it is fabulous. We ordered it every time we saw it on the menu.
Everything was excellent, especially the rolls which were hot and had a chewy texture. After eating Sardegna flat bread for two weeks we were ready for anything that had a chewy texture.
The restaurant has free Wi-Fi so my wife took the opportunity to upload her photos to Carbonite. This was a real plus since we had not had access to Wi-Fi for some time.
Great service, wonderful food and free Wi-Fi. What more could you ask for?

Not very good - but not exactly bad either. The lobster was a waste and the service was not very good. This was the least English proficiency so far this week, so there was a good deal of confusion.

I asked around for a good restaurant and few mentioned Sas Covas... well, they were right! I was well attended and the food was great... very fresh seafood... and the portion was huge!
A big plus is a extraordinaire olive oil on the table, green and fruity.... wow.
Good job!

We stumbled across this restaurant at around 2.15pm today and it turned out to be a lucky find. The service was prompt and efficient. The waiter recommended 2 pasta dishes, one a ricotta filled ravioli with a tomato sauce, the other a tagliatelle with a meat sauce. Both delicious. Good wine by the half litre. Best coffee we have had in Sardinia. Sitting outside on a sunny warm day in the heart of Bosa old town - perfect!

This restaurant specialises in local products of excellent quality (fresh line-caught fish, meat from the local beef race "bue rosso", fresh hand-made mozarella, etc.). The prices are not cheap but fair. You get a 5 star dinner for a 3 star price. Service is friendly and ready to help with any requests or extras.
If your are really on the lookout for an excellent diner and not the usual pizza/pasta tourist menu this restaurant should be your choice. In Bosa this was by far our No.1 Pick.

Same as other reviewers, we are staying at the hotel and had their special menu. Very good service in a lovely room, side it was too cold and wet for outdoor Seating. Excellent seafood ravioli, very good and huge caprese, pretty good swordfish, decent tiramisu. Good vermentino wine. A splurge, but worth it.

We were recommended this restaurant by friends otherwise we would have not known about it. The location is off the beaten track.
The menu is simpler to all the other restaurants in the area but what makes it stand out is the level of service. The waiters were attentive and professional.
