Where to Eat in Ayutthaya: The Best Restaurants and Bars

August 7, 2017 Major Galusha

Built just to the east of the spectacular ruins of the capital of the Ayutthaya kingdom, a Siamese power destroyed by Burmese invasion in the 18th century, Ayutthaya is a modern Thai city studded with archeological wonders. Headless Buddhas and crumbling but still-beautiful reliquary towers and wats give evidence of the majesty of the civilization that was once centered here.

Bann Kun Pra

Something sad?dramatic?big? must have happened here since our last visit here nine months ago.
First of all, the young schoolgirl (in school uniform) didn't even bow/wai to us while we came onto the Terrace.
Lots of tables were not available as they had put the chairs up.
The menues we were given were torn and untidy.
The plate they brought me, was not clean. So I had to ask for a new one.
The food came in intervals of five minutes, the 'Roti' that normally arrive first, came last, and only after asking for it three times.
Well, altogether, nothing we want to have again.

Even though this night market was the smallest of all we visited during our two weeks in Thailand, it had some of the coolest stuff. For example, there was a stand cooking flaming things--very exciting. And we bought some really terrific little coconut-batter-filled morsels that were gooey and tasty and delightful. Good for an hour or so.

Nothing too exiting about this place. Decent Anglo-saxon oriented food ( why would people go for this kind of food remains a mystery to me). Thai dishes were the usual (well made, in this case) boring stuff: Massaman curry, fried chicken w/ basil etc etc zzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Ayutaya is Not a place for Thai cuisine gourmets, so I guess that place is ...hmmmm ....ok (oh! Very clean public areas)

Like others we asked our tour guide to take us somewhere local which was not on the tourist trail. This place looks clean, has decent furniture and a good lunch menu. We picked a number of options and just shared them between ourselves. Everything looked fresh and was well presented - quality was as good as you get in more expensive places. Only downsides for me were the toilets and no beer! Would certainly use again.

They serve pretty average Thai food at slightly above average prices. The staff were nice helpful and fun. The Long Island iced tea was long on coke and not much else. You do get to sit a bit screened from the street by some plants and the beers were proper chilled. Just along the street in front of Tescos was a noodle stall with Seating. The food there looked better

The architecture reminded me of Aveson Six Senses Spa near Hua Hin, chic and private although obviously on a smaller scale. Location by the river is great and the furniture is modern and comfy, some more shade at lunch time would be a good idea.
Food wise it’s a little toned down but god nonetheless. River prawns with red curry, fried snakehead fish with a yummy tamarind sauce and Chayote fried in Fai Daeng manner was lovely. Ice cream really good quality especially raspberry. I’d happily return for dinner or lunch.

All the dishes where perfect and of much higher quality then the other restaurants. 585 bath for the 4 dishes + rice + beer and pineapple juice. Very nice live music!
