Our guide took our group to this totally unexpected and, to be honest, unpromising venue (literally somebody's back garden) and we were totally blown away. Wonderful food and wine at bargain prices (Filet Mignon for about £10) and excellent, friendly service. We were so impressed that we took ourselves back there the next evening!Highly recommended - and well worth the walk out of the centre.

When we hit Puerto Varas during our day tour in and around Puerto Montt, we grabbed a local beer, a ginger ale, and 2 strudels at El Retorno Restaurant & Pizzeria. Without saying anything other than âdos strudelsâ we were in and out in a flash in order to get back to the tour bus. Service was fast and with a smile. It appeared that a lot of locals had stopped by for lunch. The strudel was excellent.

Las Buenas Brasas is surrounded by a dense and colourful garden. The restaurant inside consists of a series of cosy, charmingly decorated rooms round the central bar. Service is extremely good from staff who all appeared to be able to speak English. The menu concentrates on fish and seafood, although meat dishes are also available. Fresh oysters were served with bread on our arrival and wine can be had by glass or bottle. We had a generous crab claw salad, then hake roasted with a crust accompanied by sauté potatoes and a delicious king crab âsouffléâ, though the latter was more a dense stewy mix of crab, cheese, breadcrumbs and probably garlic under a crust. This is a great place!

We had the hake with Chilean bean salad and pistachio crusted salmon with prawn risotto, we also had the ceviche appetizer all of which were delicious. We had an amazing view of the volcano. Great service and sitting outside is really nice in the summer

We had several breakfasts and dinners at this restaurant. Food quality is tops. Dinner dishes are creative and well-prepared. Service is excellent. Restaurant is spacious and has a spectacular view of the lake and its iconic volcanoes. Our experience is that Cumbres is one of the very best restaurants in the town.

A Chilean friend recommended this restaurant when I was in Puerto Varas. For the three days I was in town, I went there three times (two lunches and one dinner). The oysters were so fresh, the ceviche stimulatingly delicious, and the Chilean sea bass melt in the mouth. Even simple side dishes like quinoa and rice were tasty. The staff was friendly and helpful, communicated well in English, and the service was fast. By the window you get to a nice view of the lake and mountains. Wonderful all around!

Our party of 4 were on a private tour during our cruise and had the advantage of a brilliant local Tour Guide who we asked to take us to an authentic Chilean Restaurant for lunch.This restaurant has a great atmosphere and ambience and the staff are really friendly and helpful. Fortunately our guide was able to make suggestions for us to select from the menu so we had an array of dishes to share so that we could sample as much as possible. The food was completely delicious and the different Empanadas (Lamb, Cheese and Razor Clam) were wonderful. We actually ordered Buttered Bulls Testicles as one of the dishes and they were superb.When the Bill arrived it was excellent value for all the food and drinks we had consumed.I can definitely recommend this restaurant and would call again without doubt if we are ever lucky enough to return to South America......

Went here for a meal on our last night of a 4 night stay in Puerto Varas, wish we had discovered it earlier, lovely Pizza accompanied by cheesy chips and a bottle of Merlot for just over £27. Grate views over the lake and he staff were really friendly and helpful. Would certainly go again if we were staying longer.Thanks!.

Absolutely deserves the number one spot. Cheap, amazing service and amazing food. Highly reccomend. I had the smoked pork chop, and it was ridiculously good.
