The Sava and Sora rivers join in Medvode, from which the town's name (which means 'between the waters') is derived. Two large factories, Color and Donit, are based in Medvode. The Sava River at Medvode is also the location of the Medvode Hydroelectric Power Plant. After the Second World War, a Yugoslav labor camp for political prisoners operated in Medvode.

Modern design, very nice interior, knowledgeable and high class waiting staff and very good food are main characteristics of this restaurant. Only down side is its location, away from city center, so use of taxi is recommended (unless you have a car at disposal). During the rush hour you can get stuck in a traffic jam. But since Ljubljana is a small town, this could take you away some 15-20 minutes, no more. Once you are in the restaurant, I am positively sure you will love it. Cuisine is on the modern side and very tasty. I had a fish and it was very nice.

Great value, spotlessly clean and good food. We visited for lunch based on a local's recommendation. Wonderful salads with fried squid and local cheese plus good Slovenian wine by the glass were enjoyed and the bill was very reasonable. The area around is gorgeous too with a small shrine, church and interesting old buildings.

A must in Ljubljana. Enjoyed a fantastic breakfast, but you must confirm they are still serving breakfast these days. Dear HempColonel,thanks for finishing your review, we are honoured that you have kept our Monstera bistro in such great memory!As for serving breakfast, we stopped 3 years ago. Namely our lunch service expanded and we start serving at 11.30 already.So, for breakfast in Ljubljana, there are several tasty options elsewhere, for lunch you are welcome from 11.30 until 16.00 (last possible arrival) from Monday to Saturday. A perfect restaurant for traditional balcanic grill meals. Very friendly and helpful staff, nice atmosphere, huge portions and what is the most important, excellent, tasty food. We were absolutely satisfied with all kinds of meals: soups, salads, grilled meats (cevapcici, sausages, chicken, etc.) and the bread is also awesome. Highly recommend this restaurant and wish to return one day.

This place has been going since the 18th century and is the oldest restaurant in town.Inside the atmosphere reminds you of the old Yugoslavian period, a mixture of old fireplaces and 1950s style. The waiters are old-school dressed in shirts and white aprons.The cuisine consists of local dishes and large portions. The wine is good value and Slovenian.If you want a change from the new style cooking and to experience a piece of the past Id recommend this place.

Stara pumpa (old gas station) food is based on Balkan tradition: cevapcici, prebranac (baked beans), sopska salad, etc. Food is very good, but service is a little slow. Waiting for 40 minutes to prepare a portion of cevapcici is a little too much.

Might be that it was due to late Sunday 5 course menu was a bad choice. Sunday a bad day, just before restaurant closes. It might be the wine. We opted for Zidarich malvasia (veg and fish menu); quite terrible decision. I admit it was our fist encounter with Zidarich. Sorry, but even if wine is macerated and or bio, it still has to has some resemblance to wine. Our mistake, but it spoiled overall experience. All but one course was good, but not so imaginative as we remember from the past. Risoto was a positive surprise, a soup was very good, sweet (tiramisu) was eatable, while main dish, squid was a total dissapointment. Chewing squid with no character and even a bit sour aftertaste. Ok. Perhaps due to bad wine selection as well.On top of it, there was music. And what a music! Sorry, I am very tolerant regarding taste, but - please bear in mind that to listen to "Martinov LulÄek" (one of many extreme stupidities heard that afternoon) while eating in one of supposed to be best Slovenian restaurant is outrageous. Running a restaurant is also having ability to relate to its guests. At least for high end restaurants that should be a rule. You missed us completely yesterday.Dear SimplyDrapi, Thank you very much for your review. I am really very sad to read that our restaurant didnât meet your expectations. Last year we were dissapointed but somehow we didnt want to addmit to ourself that the experiace was really bad. The reservation was possible to do more than a month before. When we got there we couldnt order ala carte. We got the preordered plates of meat and vegi and potatoeos. That we didnt like, but because of all friends... we said to ourself ok, we will eat that... But when the bill came than the blood pressure went high... We really travels around the world for last 15 years and we know something about the good food.... For 3 people (2 adults and 1 kid) to pay 100 EURos for plated food (not ala carte.... we wanted ala carte but the waitress didn't allow us....) in Slovenia, this why to much!!!In Slovenia is to many restaurants that are much better in traditional food and good customer service than this one. Please visit any one alse. Please just go away of Slavkov dom!!! At the end we said to the owner that the service is not on the same level as the bill is.... And at the and the owner said that she should add to the bill because of the children!!! What?! Kids didn't do any damage or problems...

A great place - sitting on a lovely terrasse, overlooking the countryside and enjoying wonderful Slovenian food. All was great and we were happy that we got a seat although it was busy with the booked party and we didn't reserve, just came along after a recommendation from locals. The owner told us what dishes are available and how they are cooked and we were choosing starter, main and desert - all great and absolutly delicious. Owner and all people there were really friendly and lovely. Fully recommended.
