Where to eat Caribbean food in Cat Island: The Best Restaurants and Bars

May 2, 2020 Timmy Ribble

Find out what Caribbean restaurants to try in Cat Island. Cat Island is simply ameowzing. Really, all puns aside. Legend has it that magical creatures inhabit the underground caverns of Mermaid Hole, and the ruins of Deveaux Mansion and Armbrister Plantation are breathtaking. A hike up to the Hermitage stone monastery on Mount Alvernia, the highest point in the Bahamas, will reward you with panoramic views. A guided tour of the island’s diverse creek systems is a must for nature lovers.

This is a new resort that opened seven months ago. We did not stay here during our vacation but we ate, drank, and used their beach a lot during our month on Cat Island. The owner is hands on and his whole family are part of the operation. They make the best mango Piña coladas I have ever had. They use real mango not a mix! For food we shared the spicy Island wings, coconut shrimp, Caesar salad, and the rib-eye steak. So far this is one of our favorite spots on Cat.? We still have two more weeks here and plan on trying more menu items. We are bringing our family here the night they arrive for dinner. As far as the facility & beach, they are gorgeous. The club house where the restaurant is located has a large full service bar, flat screen tv’s, inside + outside ocean front dining, and they serve all three meals. Fountain Bay is kept immaculate from the bathrooms to the beach. They even let us use their skim boards, and stand up paddle boards if resort guests aren’t using them. This place is a gem!!

Right across the street from the New Bight International Airport, this place gets the extened lunch "crowd" from airport and Sky Bahamas personnel, airport customers, and locals. From the look of the sound system it gets a lot of action at night too.As for food, this place appears to be always open when you need them with daily specials. Instead of peas and rice, they offered crab and rice as an accompaniment to the usual Bahamian fare. Everything was really good.Service: The waitress/barmaid/cook/you name it person was definitely getting tired of it all and it showed. People told me she was always grumpy. However, this did not stop anyone, including us, from enjoying ourselves!

Mouth-watering chicken picatta over fettuccine, quesadillas loaded with fresh veggies, ice cream sandwiches on homemade sweet bread: I'm not usually a food connoisseur, but Tim's creations left me looking forward to every meal. The food is among the best I've had anywhere.

This is a small restaurant that is very popular with Cat Islanders up and down the island. We have seen the police stopped here for lunch several times. There are several tables inside, a bar, and a nice little beach and cove right outside. Get here early because they can run out. You might even call ahead to find out if they have what you're looking for. We ate here twice and saw quite a few people come in to get take out. Our first trip we had the conch fritter 'snack.' That's conch fritters with french fries. There was plenty and it was GOOD. The second time we had a lobster wrap and a chicken wrap. These things were big and GOOD. This food probably falls in the category of fast food, but every order is cooked to order so it's not really 'fast.' The prices are very reasonable which I think has something to do with how busy they are.

Stopped at The Hot Spot for drinks one afternoon, had intentions of coming back for dinner but a power outage that night kept us closer to home. There's lots to choose from on their menu, the beer is cold, the waitress is friendly, the decor is colorful, and the speakers are large! All the makings for a great night out - we'll come back and see for ourselves our next visit to Cat Island.

Da Smoke Pot

Da Smoke Pot is fine. The food is decent, the atmosphere is good and the music is fun. But this place is not worthy of near legendary status. The meal was no better than anything else I've had on the island. The atmosphere is laid back and quirky, but the entire island has those characteristics. For my money, I prefer other places. Go to Hidden Treasures, better food, right on the water, and Cat Island quirky/charming. Da Smoke Pot is fine and if you're on the island for any period of time it's certainly a consideration, but you can do better.
