It lies on the north-eastern edge of Cannock Chase next to the River Trent, and is situated between the towns of Stafford, Cannock, Lichfield and Uttoxeter. At the 2001 census the town's population was 22,724, (including the Brereton and Etchinghill wards). increasing to 24,033 at the 2011 Census. Rugeley is twinned with Western Springs, Illinois and in July 1962 the towns made telephone history on national television when the chairman of Rugeley Urban District Council made the first telephone call via the new Telstar satellite to the Mayor of Western Springs.

Well thought I would give this pub another go as I have a taste card and this venue is on the list to use , how wrong was i !!! Forgot one of the drinks so wAited a further 20 mins for the drink food arrived after 45 min wait burger was cold and the chicken was hard explained to the waitress to which her reply was not my fault we are short staffed we havenât got the funding !! I found the service patronising and rude extremely slow and food poor quality I will not be returning taste card or no taste card

Stopped here for lunch on our way home - was a little concerned that there were only two other cars on the car park but not knowing the area well decided to try anyhow and we were really pleasantly surprised. Three of us dining (at 12:30 - 2:00 pm on a Monday lunchtime) we were the only people in the dining area but the food was freshly cooked, hot and very tasty.- only criticism was that the chips could have been a little crisper but the steak was melt in the mouth and cooked just as requested (rare)Barman was friendly and happy to recommend local Ale's - we will certainly return when in the area.

Thought Iâd try this place again as a local after a bad experience in the past. I like the location and the pub is lovely after the refurb, I liked it before that in all fairness. The service is really great, couldnât fault that at all, and the staff are all great and attentive. The food however is inexplicably overpriced. I had a burger and asked for Bacon and Cheese on it. Ended up paying nearly £15 for a burger that wasnât even close to being worth the money. My friend had a pizza which was £11.50, as basic as they come, and burned on the bottom. Iâve never been keen on paying silly money for standard food - which is exactly what this pub is. The service is the sole redeeming quality. Thank you for your feedback,We can only apologize you did not feel the food was up scratch, and this is certainly something I hope the team were able to correct while you were with us.We hope a future visit will allow us to prove that this isn't us and we have much more to show you.Oliver CaveneyAssistant Manager

We visited twice in one week !!! The food and service was faultless, always made to feel welcome and wasn't rushed, all of our food was cooked beautifully and we loved the cosy old feel to the pub, we will be back very soon.

I can only think the recent 5* reviews have been written by family and friends of the landlord as our experience couldnât have been any different.Friendly staff? Are these the same staff who could be heard arguing and balling expletives at one another? The same drunk landlord who hides, leaves his wife to take the flack and threatens to call the police everytime somebody complains.Good food? They obviously didnât get the same re-heated rubbish we were expected to consume. That after the first meal was bought to guests at 2.30pm and others were still without meals at 4.00pm. No condiments on the table and dirty plates still left on the tables at the end of the party.Warm and clean environment? If you love cats youâll be right at home here. Especially if you like sharing your meal with them. Other than that the place is cold, dark and dirty.If your planning a party or even just an evening meal, give this place a wide birth.

Darren has just started doing 2 4 1 pizza on a Thursday so we decided to nip in tonight. The service was warm and friendly, the pub was cosy, the ambience was lovely, the drinks were spot on and most of all the pizza was to die for and unbelievable value. Canât recommend highly enough!! Thankyou for the fantastic review. Our pizzas certainly are a popular choice. We look forward to seeing again soon

Visited today with hubby and the in-laws having read so many good reviews on trip advisor. So glad we did.The Sunday lunch was delicious. Meat so tender you actually didnât need a knife. Varied selection of vegetables, perfectly cooked. Hubbys gammon steak was beautiful as was father in-laws steak. a few minor hiccups, cranberry sauce got forgotten, small error with the potatoes etc, nothing major. It was very busy so mistakes understandably happen. I would recommend calling to book as I booked via the internet which resulted in a table too small for 4 people to comfortably dine. Still that being said this did not dampen the meal which was superb. Will definitely return.It was lovely to meet you all yesterday and thank you for your lovely remarks about our food which I have passed on to the kitchen staff . 40 family members aged between 5 and 80 assembled at the Coach and Horses for an overdue get-together. Rose and her team attended to our every need. Nothing was too much trouble; kind, caring and efficient. Excellent food and service at a reasonable cost. Great atmosphere. Would highly recommend.thankyou for taking time to write this review we are so glad you and your family enjoyed your get together and we look forward to welcoming you again in the near future

We arrived early doors at 6.00 pm and the place filled up quickly. We received a warm welcome by all. The restaurant was well laid out and spotless. Cutlery and glasses squeaky clean. Very good menu selection at reasonable prices. Normally we find wine prices are over the top but here they were very competitive. Our order was taken promptly with a smile and delivery of the food was in good time and piping hot. The quality of food was top draw and accompanied by a good selection of fresh vegetables. The telephone rang out continuously with people making bookings.All in all a most enjoyable evening. Will be returning.
