The historic buildings are spread over a large area. The buildings go back a very long time but still retain some very colorful murals. There are several ancient statutes. The Gardens are very well kept. You will need an interpreter as the guide speaks only Putonghua.

Salt Lake in Yuncheng County

Reviewed By zenteng - Pasadena, Maryland

This review is based on a CCTV science and history program. The salt lake in Yuncheng appears in a beautiful blood red color around every 1000 years. This is due to the magnesium sulfate and it lasts for a few days before being washed away. It was last seen in 2015 and before that during the Tang Dynasty. Guess we'll need to wait until around 3015 to see it again unless Mother Nature changes her mind. The Chinese archeologists have found evidence that the salt of the lake had been used over 6000 years ago.
They also showed some Temples of the Emperor. Yenchang has an interesting history and appears to be an off the regular tourist route. After one has seen Beijing, Shanghai
and Xian it is time to see those places off the beaten track such as Yuncheng

This temple is built over a huge compound, and even has its own 'summer palace'. It is worthwhile getting a local guide to explain the stories of Guan Yu. As its cold in Jan, the place is not crowded - which is a plus.
