What to do and see in Western Cape, South Africa: The Best Tours

November 15, 2021 Renato Branum

South Africa’s most popular tourist destination offers the urban thrills of Cape Town, its adjacent wine country and an aura of the rich political history of South Africa. The Overberg's perfect whale-watching perches provide excitement of a different nature. The Garden Route's lakes and forests and the Klein Karoo's ostrich-farming towns and vineyards present another take on the Cape. For extra kicks, try bungee jumping or cage-diving among Great Whites.

Opposite the Muizenberg beach in Cape Town. A very large store with a full range of surfboards and swimwear etc. This shop has a large range of beachwear. Well stocked and friendly, helpful staff. Vida E is a coffee franchise inside the store. We sat down for a coffee and continued browsing the store afterwards. Surfboards to hire as well. Really impressive.

This company, BornInAfrica, is amazing. I had the pleasure of dealing with their owner Dave. Dave was very quick to respond to all my queries (quite a few!) and really thought with me as to how to make the best out of my experience. I had severe time constraints but Dave managed to work around these. Even with 24 hours, Dave and his team are able to get you a wonderful game drive. The tour is great value and seems very well organised. Unfortunately due to a covid test requirement which arrived late, I never was able to fly to South Africa. Dave was very understanding and is wonderful to do business with. I am already in the process with Dave to reschedule for a date in the future. I can genuinely say BornInAfrica and Dave is an amazing team and you will not be disappointed dealing with them.

While I can understand that a lot of people might enjoy a nudge over the edge, saying that they're glad about it because it turned out to be the best experience of their life - it was one of the worst of mine. I have a fear of heights and was freaking out about everything, but my friends convinced me to at least try. Once on the bridge, I started having a bit of an anxiety attack and the assistants seemed really helpful: they told me that they'd strap me up and that I could walk to the edge - if I felt the urge to leap, fantastic, and if not, they'd pull me back and untie my legs. Once on the edge I couldn't even look down and I asked them to help me back (your feet get tied together so you can't walk) but instead of doing as they'd promised, they pushed me. I screamed all the way down and had a panic attack at the bottom. The only time I looked down was involuntarily when the ground was rushing up to my face as I was pushed and falling and I thought I was going to die. When the guy came down to pull me back up, he told me to stop crying because I was going to have a bunch of cameras on me when I arrived back at the bridge. Like I said, some people may enjoy a push, but don't push somebody when it's clearly against their will and they're already panicking on the bridge. At least I never have to do anything like that again in my life because I can say with confidence that I absolutely hated it, thanks to the traumatic experience from Face Adrenalin.

We went out as a family group of 5 on the 07:30 sunrise trip. The conditions could not have been better and we were comprehensively briefed before departure from the slipway at Three Anchor Bay. Altogether we made up a group of about 18 people and were accompanied by 3 guides on their own kayaks. The routing took us towards the V&A Waterfront where we spotted dolphins, penguins, seals and plenty of colorful jellyfish. The return leg saw the wind pick up a bit, but the group was safely shepherded through the minimal swells back to the departure point. Two hours of good, healthy fun.
