Ternopil Oblast (Ukrainian: Тернопільська область, translit. Ternopilska oblast; also referred to as Ternopilshchyna - Ukrainian: Тернопільщина, Polish: Obwód Tarnopolski) is an oblast (province) of Ukraine. Its administrative center is Ternopil, through which flows the Seret River, a tributary of the Dnister.

This is the lake Ternopil is famous for. It is the best place for walking near, fishing or swimmiing. As our guide said, some centuries ago it was the main source of income for the noble, once in three years the water was drained away and people could sell the fish left on the bottom of the pond.

Zbarazh Castle is one of the masterpieces of the fortification of the Ternopil region, widely known thanks to the events connected with the national liberation struggle of Ukrainian Cossacks, led by Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky.A fortified settlement has existed in Zbarazh in medieval times (original fortress is attributed to 1211), but after the destruction of the Mongol-Tatars for many centuries it wasn’t restored. Only in 1626, it was decided to build a strong castle-fortress on the castle hill, which had contributed to the defense of the city from the Russian troops, and the troops of the expanding Ottoman Empire, supported by the Crimean khan.

I have been there already three times between 2005-2013 and whenever I go there, it is nicer and improved. People who work there, mostly ladies, are very friendly. Moreover, the museum changes the Exhibitions so if you been there, do not hesitate to go there again with your friends.

These caves can be done in a day trip along with Kamianets-Podilskyi. According to Google Maps they are approximately 45 kilometers apart. If you have already been to Kamianets Podilskyi and want to pass on that, there are also many other towns with old Castles and churches in the area, but you will need a good map. Located in the village of Kryvche, the caves are quite old but were only discovered in the 1800’s.
There is a steep incline to reach the cave entrance so make sure you wear appropriate shoes for hiking and for walking inside. The floor inside the cave is pebbly and uneven in places. Some of the corridors become quite narrow so I would not recommend this attraction for anyone who is apprehensive in tight spaces.
The gypsum in the stone gives off a sparkly crystal affect hence the name. The cave also offers some interesting stalactites (actually I am not sure if they are actually stalactites or just pieces of hanging rock) which look like various animals. The one of the ram is especially good and they all have legends that are attached to them which were described by our tour guide. The tour is done in Ukrainian and I was fortunate to have my friend translate for me or I would have missed many of the anecdotes attached to these rock formations. I do not believe there is an English tour for this attraction.
The town of Kryvche also has castle ruins of which all that remains is two towers, but it is worth a stop if you are there anyways to visit the caves.

Kremenets castle was the third one on our way after Zbarazhand and Vishnevets Castles. This castle was totally ruined and not rebuilt. I was impressed by its huge and impressive walls and the view from its walls on Kremenets city. The view is so unbelievable that it’s not a surprise that many newly married couples would like to come and take photos there. There is something magnificent and majestic in this castle and peole say that you can find a lot of artefacts (coins, pottery pieces, parts of weapon etc) under your feet. Entrance fee is UAH 7 per adult. I’ve never expected that there are so many beautiful places in Ukraine that are still undiscovered for a tourist. Ternopil region is especially rich in Castles and ancient places to see. Unfortunately not all of them are in good condition and they need renovation.

Theatre square is a place, where as Eastern Europeans you follow the cultural theme of walking, sitting, and generally enjoying the outdoors in fine weather. There is something for everyone here, from local talents, to children's cars, and a selection of bars and cafes. Visited several times, and always busy, on barmy summer evenings.

Dzurinskiy waterfall is nice and vibrant waterfall at the bottom of Chervone hills. There are actually two Waterfalls but second one requires at least 10 minutes walk deeper into the wood. The waterfall is placed in the wood, and offers plenty of opportunities for nice selfies and refreshing swim. So don't forget your bathing suits! Because we did.
