Fascinating trip back in time to WW2, the appalling treatment of the Jewish people by the Nazis and the takeover of Poland by Communist Russia. Quite sad but heartening to hear about their brave attempts to fight off the aggressors. Our guide was very knowledgeable and personable . Great lunch break with excellent food.

The Elblag Canal, also called the Elblag-Ostroda Canal, is a 150-years-old canal in Poland that runs from Elblag to Ostroda. At over 80 km in length, it is the longest navigable canal still in use in Poland. It is also one of the most interesting canals in Europe. Elblag Canal’s uniqueness arises from its peculiar choice of engineering to tackle a particularly difficult section of the route where the water level rises by 100 meters. This particular section is located between Druzno Lake and Piniewo Lake, a distance of about 10 km. Because the difference in height was too large, it was impractical to build traditional locks. Instead, an ingenious system of inclined planes was employed where the boats are lifted out of the water and placed into tracks and dragged across dry lands.

Seldom I get to meet someone who is soulfully connected to their community, knows its history, understands its culture, has insights into its present conditions and actively cares for its harmonious and beneficial future. This is the kind of person I experience the operator of this tour to be, and this in itself was an inspiring experience in itself - deserving the 5 star review. As for the castle - it is amazing! The enormity of it, as well as the preservation state is impressive. Even though not built by the Poles, it is a significant element of the complex Polish culture, giving particular insight into the nature of relation with their western neighbours, the Germans. On the first glance, it is a symbol of pride, of defeating a seemingly superior yet oppressive force and a landmark of self-confidence and hope - much needed by the Polish people. But looking even deeper I hope it could become an inspiration for a new era of the Polish-German relationship - where these two nations could combine their complimentary qualities, letting go of the past grievances - taking German focus and Polish spirit to create something beauty of which will stand the test of time even more than the Malbork Castle. As you can see, I did find aunexpected value in the experience and likewise invite those of you reading it not only to enjoy this tour, but to always look beyond the obvious :)

What a find - booked it just walking down a street in Krakow for 10 of us - two electric cars of 5 each took us to the Jewish quarter, the Ghetto and Schindler's factory - picked us up from the hotel and dropped us off where we wanted and the two drivers who doubled as tour guides were excellent. If I recommended one thing to do in Krakow it would be this - 90 Zloty each (£18) but well worth it - really good. The men went in one buggy and the women in the other and due to the temperature the women made the best call to have the sides down and the heating on - they were stripping off whilst the men were sitting with blankets freezing their bits off - but a great trip - everyone one of us thought it was the highlight of a very eventful trip. The girl's all loved their guide 'Simon' and could not praise him enough.

Our family spent several days in Krakow in the safe and very friendly hands of our most knowledgable and highly skilled driver Alek. He was prompt collecting us from the apartment, and he had a unique knowledge of his city and homeland. Alek added considerable value to the trip to Auschwitz-Birkenau, and was very patient with our granddaughter. On the following day he drove us to the Salt Mines in very difficult weather conditions . On the last day he took me to the shooting range, and afterwards showed me the picturesque lake and facilities of Krakow Bagry. Both his reliability and dependability ensured that our trip to Krakow was a complete success. We would highly recommend the company he works for namely 'Welcome in Krakow'. We hope to return to the city and avail ourselves again of the company's and Alek's expertise. Brilliant!

There are many great attractions in Warsaw, and this tour is a way to learn about them and gain new insights into the city, explore at your own pace and get a lot out of the tour without the crowds limiting what you can hear or the time you can pause for photos, or getting in the way. It takes ~70 minutes to complete, and allows one to pause and restart at will if you want to spend more time somewhere or take a lunch break. There's genuinely more info here in this short walk than in the 2 hour guided tour. Once you're done you have a knowledge of how to orient and get around in Warsaw's main tourist district, and have new places to put on the list of attractions to explore further.

Tour guide was superb. The two sites were thought provoking and moving emotionally. Our tour guide of the two sites was very good. His knowledge and willingness to answer questions fully was much appreciated. Interesting also to learn of the other prisoners (Political, gypsies, homosexuals etc) not regularly mentioned In UK. Also challenged to think about atrocities the world is ignoring currently and how humanity continues to repeat the errors of our forebears! Both Auschwitz and Birkenau were COVID secure and visitors required to hand sanitise regularly throughout the visit.
