Visit us and ride the rails through the beautiful Mark Creek valley as you listen to the history of Kimberley and the Sullivan Mine. Experience life as a miner at the Underground Interpretive Centre. Participate in our mining show and be exposed to working mine equipment. Enjoy spectacular scenery and the occasional wild life as you travel to the Kimberley Alpine Resort. After a brief stop at the Resort Station you can learn more about Kimberley as you continue back to the Downtown Station. KUMR is open from the Victoria Day Holiday in May until Labour Day in September.

We really enjoyed our tour of the mine. The tour guides were very friendly and informative. I would highly recommend this to all adults to help get an appreciation of what the miner went through on a daily basis. The tour takes you right inside the mountain and includes some awesome demonstrations. We could have spent quite a bit more time there but unfortunately it had to end. I would not recommend this for children. They will enjoy the train ride but that's a very small part of the tour and we could see they were bored out of their minds listening to the intricacies of mining. It was too complicated for most kids. Also should warn you that the train ride is not for anyone with a bad back. Its a very hard ride with lots of thumping and jerking.

The 1800+ hectares Kimberley Nature Park is the largest urban park in Canada and also home to black bears and mooses. It has several dozen kilometers of multi-use trails, criss-cross the forested hillsides, linking small ponds and panoramic viewpoints and the entire area is well signed. The park has some old roads and some footpaths, all hand built and maintained by volunteers. One will encounter occasional deadfall and wet and rocky sections during hiking, walking or cycling and it is advisable to take extra care. There is no requirement for dogs to be on leash while in the park. The weather during our hike was perfect...we started out at the Nordic Center at Centennial.........we had a sunny packed lunch outside the skiers' cabin.......we were rewarded with spectacular and magnificent views of the Purcell Mountains, the Rocky Mountain trench, St Mary valley and river.......12km later back to where we started it all seemed a walk in the park in comparison to the vertical hike at Mt Swansea in Invermere,BC, also a 12km hike. Well, it took Charlotte, the perpetual energetic Labradoddle, 2 whole days to recover and us humans ....×7.....but it was all worth it just to be one with nature!!!!!

Northstar Rails to Trails is a 28 km paved path that links the Cities of Cranbrook and Kimberly. Users can bike, run, walk or rollerblade over this picturesque setting. The trail has numerous access/parking areas. The trail uses the old Northstar branch rail bed. Dry toilets are located at 3 points along the route. Makes for great family outing, small groups or individuals. Depending on your fitness level expect the ride from one city to another to take 1-2 hours, but feel free to travel any portion of the trail. Motorized vehicles are not allowed on the trail and we ask you to keep dogs under control.

The Northstar Rails to Trails is a 27 kilometre paved biking trail running between the cities of Cranbrook and Kimberley. There are numerous access points along the trail so that one need not travel the entire length. It is relatively easy to bike the entire trail as it is paved (quite smooth) and has a relatively easy grade as it is an old railway bed. There are nice views along the way with I great view of the St. Mary river from the bridge crossing it. Wildlife such as deer and numerous birds may be encountered. If you plan on only traversing the trail in one direction it is easier to go from Kimberley to Cranbrook which takes one to one and a half hours of leisurely riding. There are a few pit toilets along the trail, a few benches and some interpretive signs. Since it opened in 2010 there have been some improvements which make this trail an absolutely wonderful way to spend a half day.

I've been to the library a few times and have to say that it has more than what locals may realize. The location is perfect for access and the staff are friendly and knowledgable. Lots of learning opportunities and the heritage museum offers a great history of Kimberley and it's community residents. Take the time to check it out. It's worth the visit.

We enjoyed our visit to the Cominco Gardens mid June 2017.
The Gardens are run by volunteers and during our visit we were the only people there. We spent time wandering around, viewing the various memorials/dedications and stopped to sniff many flowers that were in full bloom.
I can only imagine how beautiful the Gardens will be later this summer and if we return to Kimberley then, we will be sure to have a second visit to check it out.
Admission is by donation, which is recommended $2 per person or $5 per family. Clean washrooms on site as well.
Highly recommend!
