GramadoZoo

Worthy of its reputation as one of South America’s best zoos, GramadoZoo is an animal reserve with a difference. Specializing in species native to Brazil and with an emphasis on animal welfare, GramadoZoo makes a welcome change for animal lovers, with spacious open living areas and most of the animals brought in as rescues. More than 1,500 animals currently inhabit the zoo, including capuchin and howler monkeys, tapir, emus and crocodiles, and a 1.800m walkways links each section. Most impressive is the huge aviary, where birds like arraras, parrots and toucans fly freely, while more dangerous creatures like jaguars, leopards and snakes can be seen from behind armored glass screens. Finally, for an even more thrilling encounter, visitors can also choose a night tour and take a peek at the zoo’s nocturnal residents.

Jardins a céu aberto, cultivo de plantas e flores, loja de essências com ênfase na lavanda e suas propriedades terapêuticas, bistrô.

We were "lucky" enough to be at Le Jardin the very first day they started charging an entrance fee (ten Brazilian reais for adults, five for seniors and children, 6yr and below are free). Despite that, it is worthwhile to visit it. The property is uphill, and you get to visit the different flower gardens by going uphill in stairs or trails. Because many senior fellows visit it yearly, they decided to put all gardens halfway through the climbing, so you don't need to go all the way to the top, where only a greenhouse with small plantlets are kept to sell. There is a nice gift shop where local fragrances, soaps (locally produced), memorablia and decorating itens are sold (not cheap). There is also a small cafe by the shop, where good coffees and pies are served.
