Grossglockner High Alpine Road

One of Austria's top 3 destinations amidst the Alps The Grossglockner High Alpine Road is like an ornament of ribbons located between green mountain pastures, colourful flower meadows, rocky rubble, ice and show. It nestles up against hills, follows the course of the natural ground and fits the Mountains like a glove. Whooshing Waterfalls, the shrill whistling of marmots and the howling wind in the summit regions create an unforgettable high alpine soundscape. And then, all of a sudden, he appears: his majesty, the Grossglockner, the black mountain. Join us for a journey beyond compare up high to the perpetual ice of the glacier!

Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse is a 48 km scenic drive in the Hohe Tauern National Park. It costs 35.50 EUR per car. Highlights include:
1) Edelweissspitze Panorama station
2) Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Hohe vantage station
3) 1.5 hour Gamsgrubenweg from the vantage station to Wasserfallwinkel
4) 30 min Swarovski-Warte panoramic trail around the vantage station
5) 1.5 hour Pasterzenweg from the vantage station to Pasterze glacier (funicular costs 11 EUR extra each way)
We did the scenic drive on a beautiful sunny day in July. The road condition was excellent, and the views were wonderful. We saw marmots at Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Hohe vantage station. The Swarovski-Warte trail was not very interesting, while Gamsgrubenweg was very scenic and enjoyable. We wanted to do Pasterzenweg but the additional cost of the funicular upset us. Didn't we already pay 35 EUR? We read that the founder of the Hohe Tauern National Park was inspired by Yellowstone and Yosemite in the US, and these national parks cost $25-30 for 7 days. This was 35 EUR for 1 day, plus extra for the funicular. It was just a bit too much.

The park is located in wondefull place. The park is not really wild as most of the animals are behind cage, but the place is very active as it has a kids playing area also. My kids and family enjoyed the place, location and weather.

Kirche St. Georg

Reviewed By rumabo - Asia

Skischool Zell am See

Booked 5 days of lessons through neilson with skischule Zell am See. Our instructor Simon was super patient and did a great job of improving everyone’s confidence and skills on the slopes. Great to have someone who knows their way around the area, not only giving great tuition, but also thinking of the little things that can make the difference during the week- which lifts are warm when it’s cold, which are the best places to go for lunch, how each slope will be affected by weather conditions and tips on how to deal with that - leaving you free to try to concentrate on practicing your new skills. All the instructors were very friendly, would definitely recommend.

Skischule Karl Maier

Reviewed By MarkandKaz - Lincolnshire, England

My wife and I booked ski lessons with the Karl Maier Ski School. My wife was a beginner taught by Eoin (Irish guy). She says the he was brilliant. Having had a bad experience elsewhere with skiing lessons she was initially unsure about ski again. Eoin was very patient and explained things fully in different ways so that she understood and helped her when she got it wrong. He helped her on and off the lifts until she got the had of it as this was her big fear from previous experiences. By the end of the lesson she was really happy with what she had learnt and could happily use the lifts and ski down the slopes within falling. A big big thank you to Eoin.
I was in an intermediate class with Giselle. Again she was very good, explaining everything very well in simple terms. She was also able to offer advice about the resort and slopes and you could have a laugh while learning. I learnt so much and my skiing has really improved. Big thanks to Giselle.
Both a credit to the Karl Maier Ski School.
We had ski hire from there also, a good service and no issues.
They run an “awards night” at the end of the week. A great night out, lots of fun and worth going to.
