Over the last few months both myself and my wife are spending more time at the Heavenly Spa. Predominantly enjoying the sun by the pool. So I thought I’d pay tribute to the way the pool staff/lifeguards; Lahiru, Bawantha, Kareem, Tara, Nancy & Micheal carry out their duties. As you arrive they always have a welcoming smile as they bring your your towels; moving sun beds around to ensure you are next to you loved ones. Once you’re settled they maintain a watchful eye and I have witnessed on several occasions how they diplomatically ensure guest abide by rules, and thus ensure a day by the Westin pool is an very enjoyable experience. Well done folks!

National Museum of Qatar

The immersive and experiential National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) tells the story of Qatar and its people from earliest times to today, bringing to life the peninsula’s natural history, giving voice to Qatar’s rich heritage and culture, and expressing a vibrant community’s aspirations for the future. The new museum embraces, as its centrepiece, the restored historic Palace of Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani (1880-1957), son of the founder of modern Qatar: a building that in former times was both the home of the Royal Family and the seat of government and was subsequently the site of the original National Museum. Jean Nouvel’s new building incorporates the Palace while seamlessly integrating innovative artworks commissioned from Qatari and international artists, rare and precious objects, documentary materials, and interactive learning opportunities.

The rich country of Qatar has spent its money also regarding culture and art in an admirable way. The Museum of Islamic Art and the National Museum are incredible buildings alone worth looking at for its architecture. The National Museum, opened in 2019, was designed by the famous French architect Jean Nouvel, who crafted the museum after a desert rose, a crystal found in the desert here around. To get here there is a free shuttle bus, which every half hour connects five museums. For me it was too complicated and I didn't use it. Entrance fee is QR 50, but there is a Museum Pass for 3 museums within 3 days for 100 QAR. There is a screening at the entrance. Inside there are information boards in Arabic, English and Braille. Photography is allowed. There are also several educative play areas for children and videos screened onto the wall depicting scenes connected to the objects shown. In every respect a very up-to-date, modern museum. The exhibits - or more often just explanations - in the museum start from the early nature and its wildlife to the first humans, who were shifting between desert and coast, where pearl gathering had become the main income until the early 20th century, until oil and gas was discovered here, making Qatar the richest country per capita in the world. The Qatari Diplomatic Crisis of 2017 is not left out as a theme in the museum.

State Grand Mosque

Reviewed By malikawais143 - Karachi, Pakistan

Imam Muhammad Bin Abdul Wahab Mosque also called National/ State Grand mosque of Qatar, located in Al Muhandissen street Doha. IMPORTANT TO KNOW:- If you find the location of Grand Mosque of Doha from Google they will take you to other Mosque name "Al Shouyoukh Mosque" which is located near Souq Waqif. So if you want to visit Grand Mosque always search "Imam Muhammad Bin Abdul Wahab Mosque" than you will get the right location. The distance of National Mosque is 3.7 km from West Bay and 8.1 km from Old Doha/ Souq Waqif. The Mosque was opened in 2011, having 90 domes and 1 Minaret with total capacity of 30,000 peoples. The National Mosque is the largest Mosque of Qatar. This is one of the beautiful Mosque i have ever seen with eye catching architecture that have several entrance gates for gents, ladies, disabled person and have large parking area. The best time to visit Mosque is Evening or blue hours to enjoy the lighting of the mosque. The security persons will allow you only to take pictures from mobile they won't allow you to take pictures with Professional Camera (DSLR) without prior approval from qatar authorities that was very disappointed for me because i walked too long just to take pictures with my camera. Muslims and non-Muslims both can visit the Mosque any time with proper dress code, ladies must wear Abaya and cover their heads. If you take a taxi to the mosque either you can ask driver to wait for you or you can walk around 300 to 500 meters to reach at Main street from where you can get another taxi. If you are in Qatar must visit this place.
