Table Mountain

The mountain in the middle of Cape Town offers many hikes and magnificent views in all directions.

We visited the stunningly beautiful Table Mountain. The cable ride to the top of the mountain was great fun with some absolutely incredible views, and once we were on top of The Table Mountain it was like stepping into heaven as you are lost for words on the breathtaking views and the amazing surrounds. Visiting Table Mountain and witnessing the majestic views was like being on the edge of space and seeing the beautiful clear blue sky on the horizon and all the beautiful areas and the coastline in the distances was just an experience we will never forget. Me, my wife and our daughter had the most amazing experience as the views and the surrounds made us feel like being lost, but in the right direction. This was without a doubt one of the highlights of our incredible South African holiday.

Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden

Situated on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain, Kirstenbosch is internationally acclaimed as one of the seven most magnificent botanical Gardens in the world. The 528 hectares estate includes a cultivated garden and a nature reserve. The developed garden displays collections of southern African plants including many rare and endangered species. There are also visitor facilities in the garden including restaurants, a nursery, a gift shop, a bookshop and a permanent Zimbabwean stone sculpture exhibition.

This is a very nice garden to walk and wander around. It is very well maintained and clean. There are pathways everywhere. There is even a skywalk. In this time of the year (early March) everything is green but there are no blossoms on the flowers anymore. (And thus not that many birds anymore). Depending on your time you can spend easily 3-4 hours in the garden.

The 65-passenger cable car runs from Tafelberg Road to the top of Table Mountain. This one has been on my bucket list for ten years and on my third attempt the weather was finally on my side. Spectacular views over Cape Town and the Bay. The walk on top of the Table Mountain is breathtaking as well. Highly recommended but make sure you book your ticket online in advance.

My husband and I recently joined Sue for a great day in the wine region. She did a fabulous job explaining the history of the areas to us, letting us try a local treat and taking us to great wineries for first-hand experiences! She also picked a wonderful spot of our lunch.
We were lucky to see Sue twice on our trip - she helped us with an airport transfer on our first day. After a long travel day, seeing Sue's smile was a perfect welcome to South Africa!
Thank you for the great day (and transfer!) Sue!

We could not recommend this tour highly enough. Our guides Angie and Fred took us to four different wine producers for tastings all of which were in beautiful surroundings with wine experts to advise us. But more than this the whole day was filled with invaluable information about the region and South Africa in general. We also went to the town of Stellenbosch and had some other additional stop overs which were fabulous. We really felt that Angie and Fred treated us as friends rather then ‘clients’ and we travelled round in luxury in their spacious car. We got so much more out of going round the winelands with experts - going on our own would not have compared.

This tour was arranged entirely beginning with our hotel pick up and scenic drive to the site. Quad bike was first with a ride through the vineyards up to the top of Hamilton Russell mountain with picturesque views. There was a brief orientation on operating the Quad bike before we took off. I would mention to anyone considering this that you should wear clothing and shoes that you don't mind getting dirty. Quad biking is fun, but also kicks up a lot of dust while riding! next was our Zip Line adventure. Again, quick practice zip line to orient us to the activity. The course begins at the top and consists of 10 zip lines down to the bottom. There are no steep descents but some zip lines on the course are faster than others. Our guides were very helpful on both parts of tour. Overall great experience that created fun memories!

Cape Town Hiking with Tim Lundy - Tours

Tim Lundy grew up with Table Mountain as his back garden and has been hiking for more than 30 years. He is now an accredited mountain guide, with first aid training and experience. He has safely led diverse groups on various hikes around the Cape peninsula.Table Mountain is known for it's outstanding vistas and unique flora and fauna, found nowhere else in the world. Hiking the mountain is a popular choice for Cape Town visitors, but because of its proximity to the city centre few people appreciate how easy it is to get into difficulty on the many trails and paths. Tim emphasises safety first, fun second. Experience one of the world's seven natural wonders with Cape Town Hiking.

I met Tim via WSAR – Wilderness Search and Rescue…and being on the same team (Hiker’s Network) and Tim tracks us on our weekly hikes via whatsapp - we became facebook friends as well and saw on my ticker that he will be doing the Orange Kloof hike which has to be booked 2 months in advance due to the limited number of permits issued per day…
I’ve only heard of this route but don’t know if we were ever going to do it as our hiking club has more than 12 members…as a result, I jumped at the chance of doing this route with Tim - after doing my research on him off course as this particular route cannot be done without a guide and Tim being qualified and all!
Well it is winter and the weather warnings leading up to the hike didn’t look good! I read up on the route as well and shouldn’t be attempted after heavy downpours and boy oh boy did we have downpours yesterday (Saturday) and throughout the night! Regardless, I will be hiking Genadendal in 2 weeks and Orangekloof would be great prep for an away hike in the middle of winter!
The morning started out great though! Perfect weather for hiking, cold and barely a breeze and I could see the mountain tops from the cape flats..I came prepared with extra clothing and rain jacket even though I was wearing my rain suit!
8 of us set out and we barely started when it began to rain a little but spirits were high and we were with a competent leader and even had a SANparks volunteer who shared his knowledge of the area…there were so many forks along this route but I was so impressed with Tim as he knew exactly which way to go  I held up the group a little as I got a bit carried away by taking over 100 photos! We crossed 9 rivers and had our break at Dias River which we couldn’t cross so had to go upstream to find a safer way…wanted to go the Waterfalls but the river made it impossible, did a short scramble and what amazed me was that along the river bed, nature provided us with grips so that walking along this bed was so safe!
This route as fauna and flora I’ve never seen on other trails! The views were spectacular and the company of hikers was stupendous! We were an awesome team helping each other at each river crossing and when Tim had a tiny mishap. It rained at times, it hailed at times, we had thunderstorms but we had fun and luckily it wasn’t windy! The temp at one stage was 8.5° C! It was cold but we didn’t feel it as we were all warmly dressed 
All in all, it was a superb hike and I wouldn’t hesitate to hike with Tim again and I know I speak for all who was with you…thank you for one of our greatest adventures 

Our family of four (kids aged 11 and 12) hired Warren to show us the Cape Town peninsula. Warren was extremely knowledgeable and personable! Our full-day tour included Hout Bay and a tour of Seal Island, the Scratch Patch, Simon's Town -- ask Warren to tell you about Nuisance, Boulder Beach with it's colony of penguins, a delicious lunch on the waterfront, the ostrich farm (including a guided tour and feeding the ostriches), the lighthouse at the Cape of Good Hope, and the actual Cape of Good Hope most western point and sign. Warren listened to our ideas of where we'd like to go and made them happen as well as suggested a few other worthwhile stops, which we loved. His vehicle was clean and air conditioned, and he even provided bottles of water for each of us. The tour was the highlight of our weeklong trip to Cape Town. Thanks, Warren!!
