Jewel Cave is Western Australia's largest show cave and is home to one of the longest straw stalactites in any tourist cave in the world. Your guide will take you on an incredible journey through several large caverns featuring colossal formations and dazzling cave crystal. The site features an impressive Preservation Centre complete with cafe, interpretative and retail facilities. Located on Caves Road, 38 kilometres south of Margaret River and 12 kilometres north of Augusta.

My first cave along the tourist route 250, so I haven't got anything to compare it to, all I can say is I was indifferent to going to a cave but I am so glad I did, I was absolutely blown away. It is all guided. There is no wandering off on your own. You go down a path and through a door and all I could hear myself saying was 'oh wow'. You will be shown a skeletal possum and also when the lights get turned off it is very very eery. Amazing that it has only recently been found (1970s I think). Be warned there are a lot of steps and it is a shame they don't offer 2 types of tickets. 1 for those that just want to go in and the first landing and a second ticket for those people who want to go further into the caves (which involves a lot more steps).

The view when you step out of your at Hamelin Bay is just breathtaking. The jetty is still hanging in there even though it is truly worse for wear. The jetty is rich in history and there is an interesting information board which tells you all about it.
Nowadays the jetty is registered in the Western Australian Museum of Marine Archaeology. Originally built in 1882 the pier, which was later extended, used to have a railway line taking out local timber to ship.
I would have loved to have snorkelled out along the piers. I am sure I would have seen some great marine life.

Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse is situated at the most south westerly tip of Australia, where the Indian and Southern Oceans meet off the coast of the Margaret River region. A famous maritime landmark, the tower stands 39 metres high – the tallest on the Australian Mainland. Guided tours are conducted daily at the Lighthouse. The precinct features a visitor centre, interpretive displays, café and retail shop in one of the historic cottages complete with ocean views.

We first visited Augusta and surrounding attractions in 1974. Since then, we have retraced the route on the many occasions when we have visitors. I can almost quote one of its best descriptions; "This is the extreme south-western most point of the Australian continent, and the point where the Indian Ocean meets the Great Southern Ocean – a bleak and windswept place almost completely surrounded by huge crashing waves and sparkling blue sea". It did not disappoint when we visited yesterday except the Sunshine had vanished behind dark clouds as we left Witchcliffe.
The waterwheel still stands built to help pump water from a spring up to the lighthouse cottages. It is now fossilised, a piece of history, a relic of a bygone age that is testament to the ingenuity and resourcefulness of the people. It is surrounded by an area of harsh beauty; the rocks, the waves, the ocean to the horizon and the windswept vegetation behind. Great history

We were advised to go to Hamelin bay about 9:30am for the best time to see the wrays and we were not disappointed. There were loads swimming right along the edge of beach, close enough to touch and only knee deep in the sea. The water is crystal clear and beach is amazing, gorgeous views. No dogs are allowed on the beach. There are toilets near the car park.

These guys are fantastic. We toured the Margaret River wine region frequenting some smaller wineries, meeting the owners and getting great incites into the challenges they face, how the wines are made and in one case how a vineyard was saved. If you want a more personal approach and actually meet real wine producers and vineyard owners get these guys to take you. Tipsy tours, best in the business

One of our favourite locations in the south of Western Australia, and perfect for a few hours' relaxing, Reading, and watching the wonderful pelicans, which are a real highlight of any trip. These birds will allow you to approach quite close (there are often at least 20). Apart from that, the shaded areas of grass, the clear blue water, and the views both towards the coast and up the river are really lovely.

I bet you that Matthew Flinders would have loved to have harbour facilities such as these when he mapped the coastline in 1801.
We were just driving around the district and saw the boat harbour on the way out to the lighthouse. What a wonderful facility for the town with its all weather harbour and great launching facilities and plenty of parking.

Seems like every town has a history museum. This is a nice one that is an all volunteer staff. Lot's of great stuff on the history of the region with artefacts, photographs and books documenting the rich history of the Augusta -Margaret River Region.
