Restoran EL

We dropped in here for a quick lunch and were surprised by their lunch menu. Gabica is usually a special of the day and most restaurants have one per day but El offered a choice of three with every day being different. They offered everything from beans and sausage to shark steaks.
I decided on grilled chicken breast and mixed salad. Lunch was good and very true to local flavor. The atmosphere was okay, nothing to write home about but it was new and clean. The wait staff was friendly and prompt. If in need of a quick lunch I would go back.

If you are in Varazdin with a car and driving towards old city, it is a good place to park and eat. Staff is friendly and food is good. Good value for money. Spacious, so you can fit a larger group and again, great parking.

Place is very nice, especially Terrace in summer. Stuff is very polite. But they have such huge problem with inconsistent quality of food. Sometimes it is just great and sometimes very disappointing.

Zalogajnica Sanjek

We frequent Šanjek for many reasons. It's very reasonably priced and we always get good quality food. The atmosphere is good and feels comfortable, especially by the large fireplace in the middle of the room. Šanjek specializes in dishes made with horse meat. I accidently got the horse gulash once and I raved about how good the beef was when our cute waitress informed me it was horse. I don't care for beef but the horse was delish!! They offer a full menu with much more than just horse. There is also an onsite meat counter where you can by horse sausages and other specialties. The parking at Sanjek isn't great, they do have a small parking lot but it's usually veey crowded. Across the street there is city parking so thats not a problem.

The restaurant is very good; maybe it’s that in Varaždin which people most like. It’s located in a very quiet street not far from the Castle. Inside it’s very well furnished and in general well decorated, with much care and taste. The music is not too loud. In this respect the waiter who attended us had no objection to lower it down considerably, which we really appreciated.
The food there is good and tasty. I went there twice during my stay in Varaždin, namely on July 23rd solo and 24th with friends and each time I came out very satisfied. The first time I ordered spaghetti with shrimps, tomato and basilisk. It was really well cooked and tasty. I was very pleased to eat such a delicious dish. Next time I had a grilled rumpsteak which was also good and tender.
The staff members are diligent. Though they don’t smile much they are helpful and efficient. The first time I went to that restaurant there was a young brown haired waitress wearing glasses who was very graceful. Once she lent out suddenly from behind a wall, what was very funny. The atmosphere is excellent. It could be even better if there was no music.
The restaurant concerned is of course a recommendable place to go. A pleasant moment in it is most probably guaranteed.

Lounge Bar Ritz

Nice place for coffee on the main square. We had a kava sa šlagom (coffee with whipped cream) while waiting for the Saturday changing of the guard ceremony at the Town Hall at 11:00. It's a small ceremony, befitting for a small town. The ceremony seems to happen every 15 minutes. At least, in our experience, we saw it at 11:00 and at 11:15. Don't know how many times it is repeated.
The Saturday scene is pleasant. Families, with bags of produce and flowers from the open-air market, sat at cafes on the square. Children had ice cream, while parents had coffee or beer.

Located in the Old Town of Varazdin, this restaurant is perfect for a quiet dinner. The restaurant has a nice Terrace across the street, in a park. The staff is friendly and English or German speaking. The food is not expensive and the portions are quite enough. And the pizza is as good as in Italy!

Palatin Restoran & Caffe bar

The story of Palatin restaurant is set in the very heart of Varaždin city. The restaurant lies at the crossroads of Braća Radić and Stanko Vraz street. The word "Palatin" was first mentioned in Roman history, and is continued to be used in the present. Specifically, in the cradle of Western civilization - the seven hills that belonged to ancient city of Rome. Palatin is the centerpiece of the seven hills and is one of the oldest parts of the city. As you step into the restaurant, you can feel this historical story. Interior and exterior are rustically designed with a perfect note of modern. The rustic and modern basement restaurant has 50 seats. The coffee bar at the ground floor is a smoking area with 30 seats. During the summer, guests can enjoy the large beautiful Terrace with 30 seats and a nice green environment. Also, guests can enjoy the covered Terrace during the winter days. On the first floor of the object you can peacefully enjoy and eat with your friends, family or business partners in a VIP room. If you stay in Varaždin and need accommodation there is also one luxury apartment with 4* (two rooms, two bathrooms, kitchen, big dining room and a loft). There is also one big conference hall for 50 people and a smaller one for 10 people. The restaurant Mission is to run all human senses and create an amazing experience for all guests. The best definition of the cuisine of Palatin would be: traditional Croatian cuisine from regions of Zagorje and Medimurje, combined with international cuisine. The restaurant pays great attention to daily-fresh and only high quality ingredients supplied by best Croatian food producers What can be found here? Baked veal with gratin potatoes in a Spanish sauce, duck drumstick "confit" with homemade pasta in "gastrique" sauce, deer medallions in "lugarski" sauce, pasta which is of only home- made creation, "Boškarin" Istrian steak with truffles, T-bone steak, grilled Argentinian beefsteak, Rib-eye steak, a wide selection of vegan food and much more than that. In restaurant Palatin, desserts have its own sweet magical story. Here you can find black chocolate magic, creamy rice with orange cream, homemade traditional "zagorski" cheese strudel, ice cream which is also only home- made creation, creme brulee and many others. The most interesting dessert is the cake called "Palatin", made of buckwheat flour, chestnut puree and dark Belgium chocolate. Restaurant Palatin also has a rich wine card in which you can find more than 50 Croatian prestige wines, complemented by local and foreign wines. The restaurant has several parking spaces outside the object, and there is also a large underground garage about 50 m from the object.

The restaurant is rather good. The food served there is in general tasty, I ordered a beefsteak on the grill and I enjoyed eating it. It was a very soft and tasty meat. In addition it was very well cooked. The side dishes were also good. I ordered grilled vegetables and a small salad in lieu of the chips mentioned on the menu as a regular side dish. I was charged 35 kuna for the two stated side dishes, which is too high an amount judging by the Croatian standards.
The decoration was nice and designed with good taste as well as in particular the furniture. The music however was a bit too high. It was somewhat disturbing particularly because it wasn’t good quality music.
The waiter who attended me was very kind and smiling. He usually laughs much when a foreigner addresses himself to him in Croatian. He then repeats the sentences which the customer has uttered.
In general it’s thus a good and clean restaurant where it’s possible to spend a pleasant moment. It’s a recommendable place to go but it’s advisable to sort out the price of the side dishes as well as the possible inclusion of such a price in that of the main course stated on the menu upon making the order.
