This is a great location and wonderfully refurbished hotel/pub. There was a mix up with Thwaites website where we booked a family room but we got a normal double room. The manager was very helpful and resolved the issue effectively. The room and bathroom were very smart and we enjoyed an evening meal. All the staff were great. The breakfast could have been a little hotter. Will definitely stay again!

Probably the most traditional of the three pubs/inns in Pooley Bridge. A little more understated than the rest, but the home cooked wholesome British pub food is of excellent quality and value.Think home made pie, Cumberland sausage and fish & chips, perfect after a long walk.Decent beer. Dog friendly, massive beer garden, clean and comfortable bedrooms, what’s not too like!

six of us went for our monthly meal. The pub has been resently reopened and the dining room is really nice. I was a bit dubious about going as it was a dog friendly pub but there was only an odd one about and not in the dining room. We all had different meals and sweets and enjoyed. Prices were reasonable. Staff serving us were pleasant.

Very tasty and superbly presented food. Certainly rather better than your average 'pub grub' also available in the village. Obviously a bit more expensive but sometimes why not enjoy that little bit of luxury! Oh yes, each dish, and the unadvertised extras all explained in detail by the staff. I hope the chef got to know how much the endeavour of he and his team was appreciated by the evening diners and then again at breakfast.

We regularly treat ourselves to breakfast here, living just down the road, and have always enjoyed it. Yet today we didn't feel it was as good as usual. The food is great, and the staff are lovely as always, nothing to fault there. But the new table layout wasn't good - tables felt crammed in, with very little room to squeeze past other diners, and indeed I had to stand up a couple of times to let people slide into seats at the table next to ours. And then there are the dogs. I get that this is a dog-friendly cafe, and that's a good thing in this area with so many walkers and dog owners, but previously there was a dog-free section of the cafe (I'm very uncomfortable around dogs) which we always sat in, and commented on how nice it was that the owners were taking the fact that not everyone loves dogs into consideration. But that area seems to have gone and now dogs are everywhere. To be fair, we were kindly offered a table in the garden room away from the dogs which wasn't yet open, but there was no-one else in there and we thought it would have been colder and we would have felt a bit weird sitting apart from everyone else. Also, the website times (and the times on the door) seem to be wrong...it says opens at 10am, yet when we arrived at 10 the cafe was nearly full, with several people having already finished their breakfasts. Maybe I'm just too picky, but for us eating out is just as much about the environment as it is the food.Hello there. We are really sorry you didn't enjoy your visit yesterday. Thank you for taking the time to tell us about it. We have had a great many discussions about trying to provide areas in the Tearoom which would satisfy everybody who comes in and yes, we did previously have a section which was set aside for people who didn't want to sit amongst dogs - which is a perfectly reasonable desire. But unfortunately we have found ourselves turning people with dogs away when there were empty tables in the dog free area. I'm sure you can understand that we just can't afford to lose business in this way, particularly now when we are trying to cope with the effects of the road being closed and the building of the new bridge. There do tend to be fewer dogs in our Garden Room and more space between the tables - which was why I suggested you might be more comfortable there - you wouldn't have been on your own for long and it benefits from underfloor heating so shouldn't have been cold. Regarding the 10am opening time, we have only just changed to our winter opening times of 10am - 4pm so there were quite a few people who hadn't realised and were waiting outside at 9.30. As it was raining I allowed them to come in early with the warning that the ovens had only just been switched on and they might have to wait longer than usual. I hope that you will still treat yourself to breakfast with us sometimes and I would like to send you a voucher by way of an apology. If you message us via the contact page on our website I will pop one in the post to you. Thanks again,Karen

The food (we both had pork belly) was delicious and perfectly cooked, and a really generous portion. The wine was good and the bill was very reasonable. If ever I’m in Penrith again I’d definitely be back.
