Our Tuktuk had engine problems and mr. Dhammika was so incredibly kind to us helping us out. We were able to park our tuktuk on his property, he called his mechanic & entertained us in the meantime with his history of the hotel which is absolutely stunning & so well based. With a beautiful restaurant on the beach! No better place to be!!

Plenty of good views of the sea and the Galle town. The jungle beach is a short walk away and a trekking path leads to Unawatuna beach. Our hosts were very warm and made us feel at home. It is a great place to get away and relax.

The best place I have ever stayed

Reviewed By 328ellad

We stayed at Apa for 4 nights and from start to finish everything was outstanding. We were offered a free room upgrade so had a huge beach front room overlooking the beautiful pool area and beach. You have your own buzzer to press and a butler appears instantly to attend to any needs you may have and to take any food/drink orders. You eat your food on your own private terrace outside your room overlooking the pool and beach. Food here was amazing. Breakfast was included and we also had a floating breakfast in the pool one day. We also had dinner here twice which was some of the best food we’ve ever tasted, we completely felt like we were fine dining and not just eating ‘standard hotel food’. The service here was impeccable. From start to finish we felt like royalty. Nothing we asked was too much. Everyone here made our stay the most amazing stay I have ever experienced. I usually would never revisit a hotel no matter how good as I like the idea of experiencing different places but this is the only resort I have ever stayed in that I would 1000% come back in a heartbeat. I have travelled and stayed in many resorts and I must say this is the best place I have ever stayed in.

Not great for the money

Reviewed By DWatsonbirder

Just endured a 2 night stay here, really don't understand the glowing reviews. Having travelled around Sri Lanka for the last 3 weeks we had become accustomed to a warm reception and welcome drink irrespective of the "budget" of the hotel (Beach Villa was at the upper end of our budget) upon arrival the owner did not say a word to myself and my partner for over an hour, despite asking how long until our room would be ready (luckily a German family asked and got a reply of 20 mins). The room itself was pretty grim. Towel smelt of urine, bin hadn't been emptied, floor was dirty, fridge was disgusting, mould present on walls and ceilings. Bed was ok. The location is ok. There is a nice swimming area nearby, but beach immediately outside hotel isn't suitable for swimming. There is a very busy road outside with the near constant din of traffic. Breakfast was the worst we've had with unripe fruit and uncooked eggs. Past reviews happily mention the puppies, but the owner doesn't seem concerned with their welfare; the mother is malnourished despite lactating, and we witnessed one puppy fall about 3m to the beach below with no staff even noticing this had taken place. Can't help but feel the puppies are there as an attraction rather than as a pet and doubt they will receive the correct diet once they're weaned (didn't see the dogs being fed and they beg constantly). Breakfast time is restricted (8:30 - 10:30) so if you want to head out early it's not convenient. The tables were also still dirty from the previous evening. Air con in room was intermittent and on occasion even turned of the mains. Toilet leaking. Decor in dire need of updating.

Secret Beach Escape

Reviewed By RaviMendis

Unawatuna beach is one of the nicest in Sri Lanka. It's an inlet that is safe for children to swim in, as it doesn't take the full force of the Indian Ocean. My visit was for two days: an excursion planned by my school friends. So we got the amazing (local) rate of Rs. 11,000 pp. Or £11pp per night. Most Sri Lankan hotels have different rates for tourists and residents, sometimes considerably cheaper, so if you have a Sri Lankan friend, it maybe worthwhile to go with them. Excellent local cuisine and seafood at the restaurant, if you fancy Sri Lankan.
