Nice Surprise - Outstanding
Reviewed By PhPSchAt the friendly welcome at the Hotel Strandhof, we were given all the needed information for our apartment. What a surprise as we opened the door and came in. The colors are beautifully matching. The lights exactly at the right place so we can see the pictures and into the closet. The kitchenette is small but fine, including fridge and dishwasher. If you don’t enjoy to cook your own meals, there is breakfast and dinner next door, at the Strandhof, by the same owner. Excellent food and service. It is easy to go for short or long walks around the island through the natural park along the beach or strolling along the houses with many places to eat. The islanders are very friendly and helpful. Not to forget, our Apartment number 6 had a balcony with the view to the sand dunes overgrown with grass and bushes. Wild rabbits, deer and all sort of birds were daily in front of our eyes.

A wonderful place to stay

We have been going there since the 70's and you could not find a better place to relax and enjoy the charms of a beautiful island without the hussle and bussle of transport. The island and Fresena in particular is dedicated to looking after you and ensuring you hve a marvelous stay. Wonderful, I cannot wait to go back. Ray from England

Our quiet island hotel is just 300 meters from the main beach. For recreation, we offer a sauna with rooftop terrace overlooking the East Frisian island of Baltrum Rooms at Hotel beach castle are equipped with a refrigerator (0dB), a desk and satellite TV. The beds are adjustable at both ends. The sauna and the hotel's restaurant can be easily reached by elevator. From Tuesday to Sunday different sauna infusions are offered. Every morning, a rich buffet breakfast prepared at the hotel beach castle for you and in the evening you will find local fish and game dishes. Wi-Fi in public areas of the hotel beach castle for an extra charge.

Reviewed By PierreMortez2Strandburg is just 100 m of the main beach access, conveniently situated between the 2 main parts of the island's settlement, Westdorf with the ferry pier, shops and restaurants and Ostdorf with direct access to the nature reserve and wild part of the beach. The rooms are nice, sauna is free, the breakfast buffet extensive, service friendly. The food in the restaurant (we ordered à la carte) is phantastic, huge portions and a lot of game (venison, island ducks and rabbits...) on the menu in addition to fish and meat - this is the only restaurant on the island with this much game from their own hunting concession

nice hotel in a good location
Reviewed By Minnesotamom2304Overall a nice hotel, we stayed only two nights, in the old part and paid around 100 Euros per night with breakfast included. Room on the smaller side but well furnished and breakfast was fantastic so I thought this was a very good value - German islands are expensive. They also picked up our luggage at the harbor upon arrival and dropped it off on time when we left. Reception desk service there was spotty as other reviewers have pointed out. Our main reason to go to Baltrum was so my mom could experience a walk through the Watt which is a nature preserve. This guided tour was from 7 to 9:30 that evening but we only arrived on the island at around 6:30 so did not have time to eat before we had to go to the meeting point at the harbor. We asked in the restaurant if we could eat afterwards and were told that the kitchen closed at 8:30 pm, so no. There was no alternative offered, and we did not know that there was not one place on the whole island that offered food after 9 pm, not even a sandwich or a hot dog, so we went to bed hungry that night. I would have expected that in a hotel with a restaurant on an island that lives off the tourists as the only source of income you could get something to eat after 9 pm - even if only a sandwich or a soup. Also we were told that when you want to eat in a restaurant on the island you have to have advance reservations, even for the restaurant in your own hotel. The following evening the restaurant was closed, because they don't operate once a week, even though we were there during the high season, and we had trouble finding another place to eat without a reservation. It appears that there is insufficient staffing in the hotels on the island probably because space for staff accommodations is so limited. There is a closet for all room keys, the old fashioned type with the clunky key chain, a very accessible place for anyone to take your key so we took it with us when we went to the beach. Good location and good value for the money but plan in advance for your dinners. If you want a Strandkorb you should reserve in advance online. We were glad we did. And don't forget to bring beach towels in your luggage.

Reviewed By BonnieElisabethPDurch Zufall bin ich im Haus Elfriede gelandet- und möchte nicht mehr woanders übernachten. Die Pension liegt im Westdorf und trotzdem sehr ruhig. Susanne und Wolf sind sehr herzliche Gastgeber, es ist ein bisschen, wie nach Hause kommen. Das Frühstücksbuffet ist reichhaltig und es fehlt an nichts. Die Zimmer sind gemütlich, neuerdings auch mit Bettdecken in Komfortgröße, was gerade für unsere Größe super ist! Ich empfehle die Unterkunft sehr gerne weiter und kann es kaum erwarten, wieder dort zu sein.
