For some years this building was vacant, now it has been brought back to life - more or less. Last year we called in and there was no one around - lights on, doors open but no one to greet customers or guests. This year we ascertained it was indeed functioning and called in for Dinner:A starter of Maultaschensuppe (translates roughly as "mousepockets soup) was superb - tiny meat filled ravioli in a clear broth.Kurbissuppe (Pumpkin Soup) was not so good - we had superior home made the night before.Rumpsteak mit Pommes (English, German and French, how odd) was not enjoyed.Schnitzel 'Wiener Art' two large thin slices was pronounced good but The Salat Buffet was nothing much.Lachsfillet Pfannengemuse (Salmon with vegetables) was a disappointment: the Salmon was cooked adequately though it was on the dry side, whilst the vegetables were dripping in oil.The wines were Regional Quality Wines served in traditional individual decanters - Trollinger mit Lemberger (my local Red wine of choice) and the Spatburgunder Weissherbst (a not very dry white, but dry whites in Baden-Wurtemberg are hard to find) were acceptable. However when we came to pay the reckoning, the Waitress asked for the Card and wasn't inclined to release the actual detailed account. We were not inclined to use the Card before we checked the not inconsiderable bill.Strange Waitstaff attitude, barely competent cooking, perhaps when they have finished refurbishment the new Owners will check out the Staff. We dined evening of Monday 30 October.

Man hat also nichts dazu gelernt.

We were staying in Bad Liebenzell and popped in here for a drink one evening. Though it was right on the main road through and out of town - which road was not that easy to dash across - the place seemed unaffected by the traffic and was well sorted and quiet. So much so that we decided to dine there with relatives the following Saturday night. There was not a lot of room which indicated that it was indeed popular with the locals and the wine was choice but the food was dreadful: 1 sea food medley was lukewarm, had a few mussels, some rubbery squid and chunks of Crab Stick. Crab Stick ! 1 curried chicken was hardly warm, barely spiced and very tough,1 was more eatable but almost unspiced and 1, some kind of meat and vegetable melange was picked over in an attempt to find something to enjoy.Apart from a range of Ice Creams, the only Desert on offer was Tiramisu, only when it was ordered they didn't have it. If the food is supposedly Italian inspired they had better think again - Local Black Forest dishes, though somewhat meat heavy would perhaps had been better, at least someone local may have been able to tell them how to prepare and serve..The food gave every indication of being over cooked, but was not presented hot. There are other places to eat in Bad Liebenzell that do not have the name or the quaint building but do serve good food. Visited Saturday evening 22 March. (Perhaps it was a weekend cook).

My first visit in 1952 with my school class has inspired my love for this place. I still come here every couple of years for over 60 years now. Heavy hand tp hand combat partisan fighting here during the final days of WW 2. Shady walk along a gurgling creek, the Monbach. Listen to the birds and hums of insects and butterflies. No uphill, leisurely stroll with plenty of benches to rest along the way. Stop at Bas Liebenzell afterwards an enjoy a concert in the park or coffee under the trees. Breathe in the fresh Black Forest air. Enjoy a round of golf at the nearby country club. An hours car ride to Baden Baden, casinos etc a place frequented by the former Shah of Persia and his first wife, Soraya, and Freudenstadt, great skiing in winter, hiking in summer etc. 2hours from Strassburg and the Alsace Lorraine region.
