Our concept is traveling back in time. Our theme is the woods.When you go up the steep road in the hot spring village, the “Woods of Ichijo” suddenly appear in front of you. You are a protagonist of a movie who stepped inside the woods of Ichijo. You will encounter many things and experience many things. Walk around in the woods, and you will find an open-air bath where you can feel the breathe of the woods. Wander around a little more in the woods, and you will find our medicated bath that heals your injury. For your meal, walk across the bridge and take a trip back to the Taisho period! The “Cuisine of the woods” decorates up each room at our private restaurant. Feel the kindness of the people in the woods of Ichijo as if you are back in Tohoku in the Taisho period, and experience many enriching things. By the time you leave the hotel, you will feel like you’ve just finished watching a movie.

Reviewed By Hiroshi S温泉街も、これと言った観光場所も無いが本物の温泉宿。素晴らしい温泉、料理、設備、スタッフの対応等全てが揃っている。 特に食事処は有形文化財建築で取ることができる。昔使用されていた宿泊部屋を食事処に改装してあり、素晴らしい個室感を味わうことが出来る。エレベーターが無いのが残念な所ですが（高齢者には少々キツイ）、これも日本旅館特有の継ぎ足しタイプと思えば良いと思う。古い建物を上手く利用していて、日本の温泉文化を体験できる素晴らしい宿だと私は思います。

Reviewed By Mcpodgy22I want to visit the area and the only room left was a double. But I was single traveller, so they halved the cost as they said it was a waste. Really??? That has never happened before, I was amazed. There is a set menu for dinner and a buffet lunch. The dinner on both nights was amazing, though I as unsure how to eat it. The friendly staff help out and showed me what to do. It would be difficult to come here with no Japanese language skills, mine is very limited. But it would be a great experience for you. As for the onsen, I did not try as I have tattoos. There didn't seem to be a rule about it, but when I asked the receptionist seemed a little uncomfortable. When I said I would not go, he said thank you. BUT there was no shower, bath or hot water in the room, so I had to hand towel wash with some water from the kettle. Be aware of this and you should be ok, for me it was worth it for the experience.

The dinner was amazing, i highly recommend! the public bath areas were lovely and the rooftop one was so charming in the early morning and evening. the location is fairly out of the way, they offer a shuttle service in the morning to shiroishi station and pick up to return at 3pm (im sure the times change so be sure to confirm via email before) you will likely need to take a taxi at some point here. The staff was incredibly sweet, i would return if i ever visit this area again :)

Good experience, onsen not so taken care of
Reviewed By Floris vOur first time to a ryokan and despite other reviews, we've had a great time. We bargained the price upon arrival and without a pre booking. Make sure to include typical Japanese dinner and breakfast. After our awesome dinner we went to the first indoor onsen. Small and not really clean nor warm. We went to the 2nd indoor onsen. Nice and purer water. Then the outside onsen. Pure natural water and hot. With the snow and us being the only ones was a great combination. Our rooms were clean and well equipped. No need to bring anything. Make sure to use the given clothing to go to dinner and breakfast. There is no a la carte but you'll have a variety of beautiful dishes. Same goes for bfast. All meals and room and onsen included for ¥8500 pp.

Affordable and convenient
Reviewed By Patsy CHotel staff was friendly and helpful. We did not expect much from a hotel next to a train station in a small town, but the Pacific Hotel has definitely surpassed our expectations. Location was convenient and the room was clean and a good size. Since it was next to the train station, cab availability was no issue. There is also a mini mart next to the train station that opens late (if not 24h) for us to get water and snacks. We stayed one night here on our way from Tokyo to Sendai and also made a trip out to the Zao Fox Village. They allowed us to leave our luggage with the front desk after check out to retrieve later in the day, which was a plus.

Onsen that believed to cure all symptoms, surrounded with romantic serene snowy nature view
Reviewed By SarahAHA121Good points: Snowy environment during last week of December, to get feeling from onsen that claimed to heal all the symptoms, that I felt it really cured my gastritis in some ways. And super friendly and so kind staffs and people around there. (I got many free no-seed super delicious oranges many time there, so from now on I will call this place "Orange hotel" lol. Food also fulfilled my stomach in my opinion. Overall, all beautiful snowing nature view, mountain and stream around there, especially from the window in the room is so romantic during new year. Even it looked rather old, the cleanness was fine for me, seems authentic so I did not care that matter. Points that I would like them to improve: Heater that was not working in the outside tatami room area, so I have to lay the futon inside instead of be able to sleep in the comfy bed outside, and it was harsh to go outside heater room to use the toilet (still in the room but not in the heated tatami area). The resort was isolated from the city so no any convenient store around, and you should use taxi if you would like to go to Zao Fox Village (with expensive fee around 8000 yen for round trip because this Obara Onsen is so far) or even come and go from/to the station (there were scheduled buses but I thought the time not match my schedule), (but during new year I guess many shops would be closed anyway), but to stay in tatami room working with my laptop with the snowing view outside all the night was still feeling good for me, especially you could go down to enter onsen anytime during the night.

Great option for JR East Pass holders
Reviewed By elliottd358We ended up staying here because the hotels in Sendai were fully booked or exorbitantly expensive during our visit dates. We had rail passes so we were able to take advantage of several Shinkansen trips into Sendai (15 minutes) during our stay. This would be very expensive for those purchasing regular tickets, though. The hotel is very new, room was spacious and clean with a comfortable bed and nice toiletries. The breakfast was great with a generous spread with western and Japanese style options. Shiroishizao is a sleepy area away from the center of Shiroishi (itself fairly quiet). There is some cool art in the station and we had fun taking photos (we were the only ones there most of the times we passed through). Overall this hotel is very good!

Reviewed By andrea pThe stay was extremely friendly. They came out to greet you when you arrived and waited outside and waved as you left. Not all of the staff memebers spoke English, but they knew how to use translating apps.
