A ryokan with dedicated and hospitable staff
Reviewed By Jiu Mu XThe most expensive accommodation of our 11-day trip but I should say that it was money well-spent. When we arrived at Kiso Fukushima Station, we went to the information centre opposite the station to ask the staff there to help us inform the ryokan about our arrival. We waited about 15minutes at the centre for our shuttle bus to pick us up. The ride to the ryokan was scenic and relaxing. We stayed in the Japanese style room in the old building of the ryokan. A spacious and cosy room with clean private toilet and bathroom. Dining at the restaurant was a great experience. Our Japanese style dinner and breakfast were delicious. The beautifully presented food was served and introduced to us by the hospitable restaurant staff. However... there was too much food. We felt bad that we could not finish all the yummy food. Think it will be good if ryokan could reduce the portion of rice and noodles and let guests request for more if they need. The ryokan also organised free star-gazing session for its guests. A rare chance for us to look at the star-filled sky from the pitch dark summit and learn about the milky way, constellations... Our guide cum driver was very passionate about astronomy and he knew a lot about the stars... It will be perfect if he could communicate in English... What we like the most about this ryokan is the people... the reception lady, the star-gazing guide, the restaurant staff, the shuttle bus driver.... they were all very zealous staff. The ryokan owner was lucky to have staff like them.

Great hospitality, excellent Japanese cuisine
Reviewed By John OThe hosts could not have been more helpful, despite our inability to speak much Japanese. En-suite private onsen was great, and the rooms comfortable in traditional Japanese style. Meals were amazing- again traditional Japanese cuisine; many small delicious portions all served with a smile and an explanation of ‘ what it was and how to eat it’ in English. Truly excellent dinner and breakfast. Highly recommended, and straight across the road from the local train station ( but not noisy at all).

Reviewed By kmquekThis is a beautiful out of the beaten path Ryokan. The rooms are nice and large, indoor and outdoor Onsen are great and the view of Mt Ontake from every room is breathtaking. Food and service here is also excellent. There is also a horse stable approx a km away. Perfect place for a quiet environment.

Everyone needs a place to lay their weary head. For travelers visiting Kiso-machi, Komao is an excellent choice for rest and rejuvenation. Well-known for its proximity to great restaurants, Komao makes it easy to enjoy the best of Kiso-machi. Komao is a ryokan offering air conditioning in the rooms, and it is easy to stay connected during your stay as free wifi is offered to guests. For guests with a vehicle, free parking is available. Given the close proximity of popular landmarks, such as Hataagehachimangu (2.2 mi) and Kozen-ji Temple (2.5 mi), guests of Komao can easily experience some of Kiso-machi's most well known attractions. While in Kiso-machi, you may want to check out some of the restaurants that are a short walk away from Komao, including Hataagesoba Genji (0.7 mi), Full House (0.9 mi), and Cello Blue (0.7 mi). Reviewed By あきニイスキーの前泊で利用しました。 夕方出発して、夜9時頃チェックイン。 宿のご厚意で部屋を広いものにして頂き、また、他の方も書き込まれていますが、布団が敷いてあったのは嬉しかったです。 浴場も温泉ではありませんが、ゆっくり足をのばして入る事が出来て、満足でした。 施設は研修施設？的なつくり、最新では無いですが、寝るだけなので、問題は無かったです。 また、廊下に電子レンジがあったので、非常に重宝しました。 夜だったのか？場所がわかり辛かった事以外は問題ありませんでした。 また利用したいです。

Reviewed By mikion617若い主人と，若い女将とが運営する，日本秘湯を守る会の宿。 宿の口コミについて見てみると，かつてと，最近の評価とは，驚くほどの様変わりです。 お祖父さんお祖母さんから，代替わりしたそうです。 湯は，炭酸泉であり，炭酸泉は，総じて人気が高いものです。 さまざまな病気，とくにアトピーなど皮膚病に効能があると言います。 日本最高級の炭酸泉は，鹿児島市にある妙見温泉石原荘であり，湯も，料理も，接客も，部屋も，全て最高ですが，料金も，療養泉とは言いがたく，高級です。 岐阜県湯屋温泉や，下島温泉も，炭酸泉で，御嶽山をはさんで，この宿とおおよそ反対に位置します。 全国には，いくつか炭酸泉があり，大喜泉同様，根強い人気があります。 なかでも大喜泉の人気は高く，接客，料理が驚くほど良くなった現在，以前にも増して，大変な人気のようです。 日帰り入浴者でいっぱいだった後は，満室の宿泊客でいっぱいになるようです。 ご主人のさわやかな接客はすばらしく，若女将の料理も，田舎料理ながら，とても美味しい。 あえて言えば，となりの部屋の音がよく聞こえること，部屋にトイレがないことなどが欠点でしょうが，これらの欠点のおかげで，貴重な炭酸泉に，安価に宿泊 (療養) できるのです。
