The former Umemura Residence is located on Udatsu-lined old streets in Mino City, where is known as a center of Japanese paper (washi) production for 1,300 years. Mino Washi Paper was recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 2014. Mino City is famous for its well preserved old houses with Udatsu. An “Udatsu” was originally a firewall built at both ends of a roof. We collaborated with Ritsuko Hashimoto, who produced the famous Japanese style hotel “Oyado nihon no ashitaba” in Yufuin, to reproduce this traditional Japanese Residence which has 150 years of history baison was established as the fusion of Asian and European beauty to make you feel nostalgic and modern comfort at the same time.
