Guest House Warabi

Exceptional and a REAL Japanese experience.

Reviewed By gizago

What a truly amazing experience this was! It wasn't quite what we expected being the personal home of the owner but ge welcomed us with open arms and warm hospitality making us feel like long-lost friends rather than passing tourists! He showed us around his home and made sure we were comfortable before inviting us into his living room and his "life". A truly amazing Japanese evening of chat (in English!) and exchanges in banter. The 4 bedrooms are in Japanese style being a single massive open-plan room divided by Japanese sliding paper walls. You have visual privacy but can hear everything from the other rooms - including snoring and the rustle of your fellow guests going through endless plastic carrier bags - why do the Japanese do that? :-) Be prepared for a disturbed nights sleep on the traditional Japanses bed - ie: the floor - but the whole experience is so well worth it! Our only regret is we only stayed one night but I wish the proprietor all the success he deserves and am jealous of anyone readin this and deciding to go - you won't regret a second of your time there!

Baison

The former Umemura Residence is located on Udatsu-lined old streets in Mino City, where is known as a center of Japanese paper (washi) production for 1,300 years. Mino Washi Paper was recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 2014. Mino City is famous for its well preserved old houses with Udatsu. An “Udatsu” was originally a firewall built at both ends of a roof. We collaborated with Ritsuko Hashimoto, who produced the famous Japanese style hotel “Oyado nihon no ashitaba” in Yufuin, to reproduce this traditional Japanese Residence which has 150 years of history baison was established as the fusion of Asian and European beauty to make you feel nostalgic and modern comfort at the same time. While staying at Udatsu-lined old streets, you will hear insects chirping and the murmuring stream. The change of the seasons with different sunlight, wind and moon light entertain you. We hope that you spend some time relaxing at baison.

Nice property but only guest!

Reviewed By o_viren

I stayed in this property for two nights. Very nice property neat and clean run by a husband and wife couple. It is in an heritage building restored very tastefully. I was the only guest in the property for 2 days. I did not see anyone esle visiting or staying in the property during these two days. They have a beautiful cafe but sadly it was empty all days. I would have rated this property 5 points but I took one point away because of following reasons: 1. I checked in 30 minutes before check in time at 2.30 PM. Check in time mentioned on Booking.com site is 3.00 PM. They charged me a small amount of Yen 850 for early check in. This was strange because property was empty. I had also emailed requesting for early check in but they did not they say it will be on chargeable basis. 2. Property provides free breakfast and its included in the cost. I had requested for vegetarian breakfast. On check out they charged Yen 2000 extra for giving me vegetarian breakfast. This was not explained to me earlier. 3. When I paid by credit card they charged extra 1.03% as credit card processing fee. That was so strange. It is not mentioned anywhere on booking.com site.

ほっこり旅館

Reviewed By tomomy

Reviewed By kajiyoshi08
