Ryokan Kurimoto

A family affair

Reviewed By Maria S

I had the delight of staying 2 nights in the Kurimoto Inn, I was lucky enough to be travelling with a Japanese friend who knew the family so I could have entertaining conversation with Mr Kurimoto and enjoying Sake together ( I actually normally don't drink) The Inn is old style where you sleep in Mattresses on Tatmai flooring. I have learnt that you can always ask for more than one mattress so I had 3 layered on top of each other because I had a sore hip. There are also rooms with normal beds. The food is very traditional and good quality with Mrs Kurimoto hands on in the kitchen. the staff have all been there for many years and are all like family. You can go to dinner dressed in the Kimono Pyjamas which I did after taking a lovely bath in the mineral water coming from a natural spring. there are many things to see in the area, the wetlands the beautiful vast beaches. I highly recommend taking this car trip across Hokkaido to the far eastern point.

Pension Porch

Fabulous hosts, location and meals

Reviewed By Tim W

This is a very welcoming and comfortable pension set on the edge of the Kittitapu wetland. Your host Katsuya is a warm and committed guy and his wife Tami happens to be an outrageously good cook. We visited at the end of winter and the wetland was a snowscape. We'll be back some day to catch the flowers during summer.

Suzuki Ryokan

Never Again

Reviewed By Nicholsp01

Akkeshi is a very interesting town with a lot to offer but this Ryokan was more like an uncleaned oyster than the pearl I was hoping for. I found the source of the musty smell that drifts around the whole building - the bathroom. With no towels, I had to use a used wet towel. With no razors, I was even desperate enough to contemplate using the rusty razor left in the bath room. In the entrance you are greeted by a range of stuffed and dusty precious wildlife of Japan.
