Top 6 Things to do in Kampong Java, Singapore

March 1, 2022 Matilde Konrad

The Singapore cityscape looks like it was ripped from the pages of a science fiction comic book. If you’re hungry for a true Singapore experience, sample the myriad street foods or take a cultural cooking class. The Botanic Gardens and the Gardens By the Bay offer a slice of horticultural heaven, and the observation deck of the Sands SkyPark makes you feel like you’re high above the clouds. The banks and walkways along the Singapore River bustle with local activity.

Deepavali Celebrations

You know Deepavali is around the corner when the lights come up along Serangoon Road, the major thoroughfare that runs through Little India. An already bustling area becomes extra busy with Deepavali Bazaars selling all sorts of traditional Hindu decorations, snacks and knick-knacks. Weekends also see some special programming and performances, so look out for that. The festival of lights usually takes place around October or November - expect heavy human and car traffic as many visit to take in the festive atmosphere and the impressive street light up.

I got a package which made each session affordable ($48 per session) and feel totally at ease with Geeta, the female masseuse — attuned, listening, knowing hands and kind presence. The abhyanga soothes while the podikizhi both invigorates and addresses imbalances in a holistic way. Essential part of self-care! Note: coming in just for massage, I was not (nor did I request to be) addressed by the doctor for pulse reading or any other Ayurvedic assessment/treatment so if you are unfamiliar with Ayurveda perhaps ask for more understanding
