Monnickendam (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌmɔnɪkənˈdɑm]) is a Town in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Waterland, and lies on the coast of the IJsselmeer, about 8 km (5.0 mi) southeast of Purmerend. It received city rights in 1355 and suffered a lot of damage during the fires of 1500 and 1513.

I visited with my girlfriend as we had seen that they do Vegan waffles. We didn't really enjoy our experience unfortunately. Compared to other waffles and pancakes that we had in Amsterdam over our holiday, we didn't think that Wicked Waffles was as tasty and of as good quality. We also thought that it was too pricey for the experience, food quantity, and service that one receives. Before paying, I saw a sign saying that you could get 10% off your food if it was your birthday... ironically it was, without knowing this before arriving. I thought that's a nice little gesture. My ID was thoroughly checked, but I only got 5% off my food bill as despite taking my girlfriend for breakfast, she wasn't included in the deal which I thought was a little naff. Unfortunately I wouldn't recommend this as a place to eat.Hi Andrew,Iâm so sorry to hear that your experience was a disappointing one. Thank you very much for giving it a try though. With regards to your 10% birthday discount; itâs a small gift from us to you but as you correctly stated, itâs only applicable to the guest who is actually celebrating his birthday with us.Alternatively we offer 5% on a bill of two guests, 2,5% on a bill of four guests, and so forth. This restaurant was convenient for us since it is across the street from the bus stop.The building has a large restaurant/party room on one side for catered events. The other side is smaller and has a relaxed pub décor.We ordered several sweet Dutch pancakes and savory pancakes to share. It was the first time we tried a shrimp kroket, not bad but we still prefer the meat versions. The pancakes are as big as dinner plates. All of these items can be paired with a nice cold beer, hot cup of tea or soda.Service was good, prices were reasonable.

Stopped here for a coffee on arrival. Good views from outside seats of the sea, birds and boats. Returned here for lunch and the waiter recognised us and welcomed us back, which was nice.I had the sole and it was like the advertised photos, it came on 2 plates! One plate had the 3 fish and the other had the fries and salad! this was slightly dearer than the other cafes, but they only gave 2 fish.The cod comes in smaller fried pieces, as per the photo.Toilets here are on the ground floor, at the back, down a couple of steps. Service was better for coffee, as lunch time was busy (although was reasonable then).

This restaurant, located at the middle of the busy Haven street in Volendam was packed at lunch time, and we were glad to find a table for the four of us. Typically it offers the usual fishing village specialties, mostly fish and seafood, but steaks and other dishes as well. We ordered a tray for two, with an assortment of fried fish and seafood which was generous in size, but not particularly tasty. My sister-in-law, who ordered the cod, fared better. The atmosphere was nice though, the service swift, and it was evident that the patrons were enjoying their food and their time. There are of course a lot of similar places nearby. Prices are moderate.

Newly started, Zagzag is serving drinks and food in amazing surroundings. Excellent quality in everything they serve, and prices are very reasonable. They also rent out bicycles.

My party of six stopped here for apple pie (as our lunch) as part of a guided private tour. We were greeted kindly, seated efficiently, and waited on quickly. We received plates of huge slabs (forget slices!) of heavenly apple pie, thin apples layered and layered and layered with cinnamon and other yummy flavors, accompanied by equal parts vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. It was delicious. A definite stop if I ever find myself in Monnickendam again.Thank you for your kind words! It's is great to hear that you loved our homemade apple pie.
