It is a part of the municipality of Waterland, and lies on the coast of the IJsselmeer, about 8 km (5.0 mi) southeast of Purmerend. It received city rights in 1355 and suffered a lot of damage during the fires of 1500 and 1513.

A nice restaurant in the heart of Volendam . A cozy place with traditional dishes like croquetes of Amsterdam , eel etc . Also you can drink a coffee or a beer . The prices are ok .

My mum and I came across this gem whilst exploring this pretty part of the Netherlands. I understand that it is a very popular stop with many people cycling in the area and that it does a roaring trade. It was quiet on the day we visited as the weather was awful. The owners are friendly and like most Dutch speak English. The food is all home made. Although we didn't have a meal the food being served looked good. We just had coffee and cheesecake. Someone had written on one of the post it notes that rather unusually adorn the bathroom wall that the cheesecake was "awesome"- I tried it and it is! Highly recommended!

We enjoyed our lunch at this place. Bitterballen, cheese plate and salad was good. The terrace is really cute. Come and enjoy.Thank you very much, we are glad that you like our terrace and the tipical Dutch snacks that you enjoyed. We hope to see you again!

The ambiance is lovely and the view is very nice but the service is shocking. Not for the first time, I sat for 20 minutes waiting for some service (it wasn't even that busy). Gave up in the end and left. Don't come if you actually want to order anything. Actually, better still, turn up with a hip flask and your own sarnies. You can enjoy the view, etc, and you won't be bothered as they probably won't notice you are even there.

Popped in here for a quick lunchtime snack and drink. We were attended to quickly although the toasties took a little while before coming to the table but it was worth the wait; they were delicious. The drinks, of which there was a fantastic variety, were delivered quickly. Very pleasant and friendly staff. The staggered seating meant that if you were lucky enough you could have a window seat at the front looking out to the sea.Thank you for the review.

We came in attracted by the nice menu, lively atmosphere and friendly staff. All good... only that the mussels that came to our table were closed in an unacceptable percentage (50%-60%). They were clearly not well cooked. Staff understood it, and reordered it to the kitchen, but only for 1 portion (we had ordered 2 portions, which we stopped eating immediately). The new portion was very well cooked and very nice. Unfortunately when the bill came, they tried to bill us for the 2 portions not well cooked... that was not nice. We shared our disagreement and they removed one of the two portions of the bill, so it was eventually fair, but it is not nice when you need to discuss these things, is it? Particularly with mussels, which is somehow a "risky" dish.I think we were unlucky - staff seemed nice and the other dishes seemed quite good. Other customers eating mussels did not have the same issue- as we saw. Nobody likes being the unlucky customer :-)

Lovely location at the marina, but a very simple restaurant. Owner was friendly enough, coffee tasted OK. But you're better off going to a restaurant in town for lunch or dinner.

Overall just a wonderful night out. Posthoorn pays a great attention to the details of their dishes. Their ability to find that "just right" temperature in all of the meats/food they prepared is simply wonderful. What I believe to be the signature dish "Iberico Pork" is a fantastic grouping of textures and flavors. I addition we also found the Kabeljauw (cod) to be a pleasant addition to last nights menu. The fish simply melted away into your mouth. All in all, If you are passing through these beautiful towns in north holland and love a memorable meal, then certainly add Posthoorn to your map- Well done and thanks for the great bites.Thank you.
