El Pelicano

This restaurant was incredible. We had the spaghetti carbonara and shrimp risotto. The bread they served along with dinner was delightful. Food was flavorful, fast, and hot. Just be prepared for dogs and cats to be wandering around. We were surprised when a cat jumped on the table from a nearby window.

Lahaina East

Lahaina East is the restaurant that serves Lahaina Resort, the three story vacation rental with swimming pool right on the beach of Hawaii, Guatemala. Oceanfront paradise with a bar and grill next door. And of course, we sell Hawaiian food - a mixture of comfort food, burgers, pizzas, fresh seafood and Asian food. Organic, vegan and gluten-free options available.

Lahaina East is a glorious holiday resort in Hawaii, Guatemala. My room over looked a beautiful black sandy beach. Also directly outside my door was a swimming pool surrounded with palm trees. I loved this place! it was peaceful, calm and in fact the noisiest thing was the sound of waves catapulting towards the sand. The staff were incredibly hospitable and always went the extra mile. When I asked for wifi access it magically appeared within 5 minutes. The cuisine was out of this world, the specialty being fish and shrimps with a twist of the Chefs unique herbs and spices. A plus was that the fish was caught locally and fruit such as coconuts, mangoes, papaya, pineapple etc were plucked fresh from trees either on or near the resort. There was nothing better than waking up to a mango and pineapple smoothly. I will definitely come back here!

Johnny's Place

Reviewed By mvdljca - So-So Cal

If you trek down to Monterrico expecting to find a tropical paradise, prepare to be very, very disappointed. Tropical hellhole is more like it. We had the bad fortune to turn up there during Easter week, where hoards of drunken, menacing Guatemalans were gathering for their version of Spring Break. The heat was unbearable, the Beaches uninviting (black volcanic sand and a surf that might very well kill you if you venture farther out than ankle-depth), and the crowds untenable. The ubiquitous loud speakers blaring homie music added to the atmosphere. We arrived in the afternoon, and immediately got an eerie sense that by nightfall, the place could become violent. So we had a beer and a nibble at the thatch-roofed Johnny's (surly, unhelpful waitresses; get-the-hell-off-my-wifi attitude) and got out of town back to Guatemala City while the getting was good. Want beautiful, tropical Beaches? Try Nicaragua or Costa Rica, instead.
