I went Volcán Acatenango tour with Tropicana. The tour was absolutely unbelievable. We got to see so many amazing things from lava explosions to the sunrise at the summit of Acatenango. Our guide Augustin was absolutely amazing. He was so caring, knowledgeable and friendly. We were lucky to have a small group which only enhanced our experience. I would definitely check how big your group is before you do it if you can, as we saw some huge other groups pass us. But either way it’s a must if you are in Antigua. Def ask for Augustin

This was not my first visit, but the place has changed and improved over the years. In the previous days the orchid collection was in a greenhouse. Now the flowers are in a more natural environment, and placed along paved walkways. The well trained guides are eager to share a wealth of information about all things orchids. A must see for orchid and flower lovers.

it takes some 90 minutes from Flores / Santa Helena to reach this former Maya city, the last 11 km on a quite bumpy dirt road. in dry times, an ordinary car may make it... the admission fee is 80 Q, but that covers the whole national park. so if you have a 4x4 and are willing to suffer some more and worse dirt roads, you can make it to the Maya sites of Naranjo or Nakum. When coming on an organised excursion, the entrance fee and lunch are included for foreign tourists. the excursion then costs some 85 US$.
The Yaxha site is very bg, but only to a small part excarvated. so what you will see is some restaured temples and buildings - the highest one with a wonderful view around, but mostly vegetation growing on hills that hide still most of this city. It is a lovely 2-3 hours stroll through the site, and there is a little museum linked to it. all together a great day out from Flores.

Go there. Just go there. Lots of hustle from locals - fair enough, it’s how they make their living.
Make the climb to the mirador then go back down and swim. Your camera won’t be able to do it justice but you can try.
Take decent footwear to climb and walk and also water shoes.
Go there.
Please. I’m begging you!

It is locates about 3 - 4 hour driving distance from the capitol city, but during the traveling time you can view few Volcanos in the distance. The attractions there are very exciting. It is something compare to Disney, but smaller. The food inside the theme park is good and prices very reasonable. Also, they have at the same place a water park as well as hotels where you can stay.

If you have any children, this is a must go place in Guatemala. The atractions are very exciting. It is better if you are not going on a weekend though since it gets really packed.

Until recently, this was probably a stunning lake. Surrounded by volcanoes and charming villages, it looks idyllic, and unlike any other lake I've ever visited.
Unfortunately, the lake is seriously polluted. So even if the surface looks calm, boating across it is a jarring experience, a continuous and not exactly gentle bump-bump-bump. The locals seem to be used to it but for me, a half hour of this was torture -- and I'm in good shape with no back problems.
Although there are roads connecting some of the lake towns, visitors are warned not to take them because of robbers. I don't know if this is a valid concern or not. I never felt unsafe among the hordes of tourists and we tuk-tuked from San Juan to San Pedro, no problem.
Finally, after Reading about "magnificent volcano views" I was prepared for unprecedented photo ops (I'm a photographer). Unfortunately, I learned too late that March and April are the hazy months. Still a good time to visit because it's dry and the temperatures are comfortable, but don't expect the spectacular vistas you'll see online. Sunsets, though, are pretty impressive even with the haze.

Great place with amazing view and great services. People make you feel at home. Restaurant and bar are a great place to dine but we decided to try the restaurants in town. 5 minutes away. The only down side is the WiFi is extremely slow but who needs it to be able to walk on their Gardens?

Sadly this volcano is very poorly maintained. There is trash everywhere. There was so much up at the summit that we couldn't even sit without being covered in flys and bees.
The hike was also harder than we expected. Make sure you bring enough food and water! Also, sadly it was really cloudy and we couldn't see anything so make sure you get there really early. Bearing in mind it can take 4-5 hours for a relatively fit person to climb.

Amazing interesting place and very difficult to find. Built in or around the 2nd -3rd century AD. Had to charter a taxi from Rio Dulce which cost me 250 Quetzales (£8) after haggling but definitely worth it!! The entrance fee Q.80 for tourists and the drive there is breathtaking along the mountainous terrain which took about an hour from Rio Dulce. It’s a very important unmolested site probably due to its geographic isolation. Some of the most important Mayan Stèles and most intricate Mayan art are all located here! Some of the carvings are strangely alike those of ancient Egypt!! All the Stèles are worth spending time gazing and learning about.. there is an Acropolis to the rear of where the Stèles are located.
