Wonderful breakfast in a very authentic building

Reviewed By Anglomaniac

I would go back to this B&B just for its breakfast!! The friendly lady really goes out of her way to prepare a very extensive and copious breakfast and this is the best start of the day you can get. The building itself is very nicely renovated, in the best possible taste, very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed our five nights' stay and would definitely recommend this place.

De Velden in a field of their own

Wow what a find. l was visiting Bocholt for the Boggeter Proms and searched TripAdvisor for somewhere to stay and de velden came up wasn't sur how far it was from the venue it was about 4 miles 10 mins away and was perfect. the room is in l think converted barn was massive bed one side and table and chairs was brought up to us. Tall dresser housed coffee and tea magazines crisp wine and fridge below with Beers and wine and water there was a charge for these but very reasonable, Bed linen was top quality as were the bath towels although as a larger lady would have like a bigger one but other than that, lovely colour as well the rooms beautiful co-ordinated. At the concert l was told that the group l had come to see were staying in Bree and l could join them for breakfast well l have had breakfast with them many times and l heard the breakfast at de Velden was legendary. It was Basket of homemade rolls bread selection of cheese and ham pate. Yogurt granola fruit cocktail orange juice homemade preserves local honey huge pot of coffee local honey wonderful l had some went back to bed then got up and finished it off. We could have had eggs as well. The view was brilliant from the windows as well a misty start with strong sun. Big bathroom and huge shower as well. Only fault was clock want working and my phone had died.

Hotel De Watermolen

inexperienced, unreliable and incompetent management, in particular a person by the name of Doris.

Reviewed By Marcpeeters

At the time of reservation in July and re-confirmation 3 months later for a 3-day stay in early October 2021, a double room was booked on the condition that access and support amenities for a handicapped person would be available in the reserved room. At the arrival date, it turned out that none of these facilities were available! Aside from a meager excuse, the explanation provided by a person called by the name of Doris was that he thought that the room concerned disposed of these amenities! The room was immediately canceled but we were left behind at 17.00pm with the impossible task of finding another room for handicapped persons for the coming 3 days! Thank you very much, Mr. Doris for your great service and professionalism! Hence my view on this hotel: Never again!

Hoge verwachtingen

Reviewed By Renate9674

Goolderheide Vakantiepark

Bit off the beaten track but staff couldn't have been friendlier!

Reviewed By 639stevef

Stayed here for 11 nights in August 2017, family of 4 with 1 kids under 15. The site had everything you'd want, great pools (three, one for babies/small toddlers, one for older kids and the larger pool for everyone else!). The larger pool was heated and had slides that the kids loved, didn't go in the others. Larger pool was unchlorinated and there was some personal detritus (you can guess what I mean) that chlorination would have made safer - major downside for me. Restaurant was huge although limited menu - they did do takeaway though; the shop was the usual emergency only content (local Carrefour market is less than 3KM away); we didn't use the laundry but it looked clean and the takeaway was fine. The site had a massive touring area too taking caravans and tents, and even had smaller plots for anglers (huge carp in the lake - looked like something out of Loch Ness when they came to the surface). Loads of play areas for kids of all ages including a BMX 'track'. There was a bike hire but the bikes seemed to be what had been left behind with little maintenance. Everyone seemed to go to bed at 10 with very little night time noises apart from owls and foxes! The noise from the Belgian Airforce doing bumps and circuits at the local field and circling over the site on approach could get a bit load but added to the interest - some were quite low! At least they stopped for lunch and normally by 5pm - very accommodating! So why an average rating? I think the site was geared up for those that owned caravans on site rather than holiday makers and this meant that, for instance, the restaurant was open from 5 until 7, or 8 - you had to check the times on the reception door. The takeaway counter was open 12-2 then 5-7, the high-wire network looked tired and uncared for although some kids went on it (ours didn't, too rusty). One day the pool, normally open until 8, was closed at 7:15 so the kids came back, when we asked reception the next day why it was closed earlier than normal we were told that had we gone to the restaurant they would have re-opened it, but unless you're a resident or go there frequently how were we to know that? The petting zoo was opened when we asked what time it opened - it all felt a little bizarre but it could have been a culture thing? The site was completely safe for the kids to whiz around on their hire bikes and scooters, we never felt they were at risk. The staff were absolutely brilliant, apologising that all the information they had was in Dutch only, helping print tickets and giving advice on local attractions - they really couldn't have done more. Everyone loved practising their English when our woefully inadequate Dutch/Flemish let us down. Bocholt (3KM), Bree(5KM) and Peer(7KM) all had decent restaurants and supermarkets, Friday seems to be vintage car day in Bree, and Thursday in Peer (unplanned, we just happened to be in each village for a meal when the cars were there too). Would I go back? Yes but only for an overnight stop with a caravan to break a journey for a day or two
