Visited during the Mittelalterlicher Weihnachtsmarkt - Medeval Christmas Market - and it was a magical time. Very crowded, but worth it, as the food was great and atmosphere ever better.The castle was in ruins but has been restored to a degree, and worth a visit. I had the venison (deer) sandwich which came with Palatine spaetzli which is a regional version from the Palatine region of Germany.

Badisher Hof is a very nice local restaurant specializing in the local favorite speissbraten. They prepare the meat to grill over a open beech wood fire right in the restaurant. The result is outstanding, delicious and is always our favorite place when in Idar-Oberstein. It is very nicely decorated and clean. Very good service.

The Deutsches Haus is one of my favorite restaurants in Kusel. The inside has a classy, but also home-y feel to it. You could make a date night of it, or bring your kids. The food is always stellar. I love their starter salad, and I almost always get the Schnitzel sampler that comes with three different kinds of schnitzel. The wait staff is very helpful, and can speak some English if you need that help. For the amount of food you get, I find the prices very reasonable. Definitely a great restaurant to check out in Kusel!Tip: I would recommend making a reservation for a weekend night because it's not a huge restaurant and it fills up very fast.

Our family of six ate here recently. We arrived around 8:30 p.m. Despite the slightly later hour, we were welcomed and ordered drinks, appetizers and main courses. Everything was delicious and made freshly to order. We were not rushed. People in our party had appetizers including bruschetta, soups and salads. For the main course there were orders of pizza, pasta and schnitzel. It was an enjoyable evening of wonderful home cooked food at an extremely reasonable price.The atmosphere in the restaurant is pleasant. The building is attractive. I would definitely recommend this and hope to come back next time I'm in Germany.
