Jenny's Restaurant

Come here again since 2017. Always crowded especially on weekend. Have to be more patient when you come here on weekend. You will not be disappointed with the taste. I think Jenny's Restaurant still the best in Samosir. Pizza, Pancake, Fried Pork, Sweet and Sour Pork, Winer Schnitzel, Fried Chicken Sauce, Grilled Fish still the best for me. Leo's Restaurant

Nice restaurant with good authentic national food.

Leo's Restaurant offers a rather limited menu which does at least include some popular Indonesian and Western favourites. You can get nasi goreng, chicken and vegetable curries and chips. In other words, there's nothing too imaginative on offer. However, at least the Beer Bintang is cold.On the down side, the prices are a little high for this sort of fare. Worse yet, a surprise 10% percent tax was added on the menu, which was mentioned nowhere on the menu. Usually places like this don't collect tax. It's usually only star hotels or upmarket chain restaurants which add it on. In any case, it should be mentioned on the menu. Stinging customers with surprises isn't a good way to win repeat business.

We were keen to try fresh grilled lake fish whilst staying in Tuktuk but all the Lonely Planet recommendations were too far to walk so we decided to give this place set high about the road a try. Good choice! We were warmly welcomed by the owner's son and told to help ourselves to bananas off the tree; at the end of the evening the owner came for a chat and is obviously rightly proud of the family run place. All the food is freshly cooked so it takes a while but it was fun to watch all the kitchen staff preparing everything. We both had whole grilled lake fish with delicious fried rice but they'd run out of sauted spinach so we agreed to have a veg curry which worked beautifully with the fish and rice without overpowering it thanks to the gentle coconut flavouring. Deliciious and amazing value.

The main dish here is definitely the small fresh water lobster from Lake Toba. I had 'nasi goreng' (fried rice) on the first day. it was pretty good but the preparation & cooking took almost 20 mins even though i was the only customer at that time as they prepared & cook everything from scratch.Second day i ordered 500g of lobster (butter fried) it was delicious especially the spicy dipping sauce but then again, it was a long wait.If you don't mind waiting, this is quite a decent place to eat.
