Top 10 Villas in Dominican Republic, Caribbean

April 23, 2023 Matilde Konrad

The DR delights visitors with its mix of white-sand beaches and "gingerbread" Victorian architecture. Nine hundred miles of Caribbean coastline make the Hispaniola Island country a beach-lover’s paradise. Day-trip to Puerto Plata and ride the cable car up Mount Isabel de Torres, or groove to the steel drum beats of Cabarete nightlife. The breezy palms and sparkling waters of Punta Cana make it a true tropical paradise.

Engagement Trip

Reviewed By magica286

We stayed at the Master River Suite, it was amazing. Felt really welcomed, the staff is very friendly. My favorite part was the bathroom and the jacuzzi, they allowed and helped all the decorators to make my engagement a dream. We loved the nature around it and how peaceful it was. Just an observation food is expensive and not a lot of variety, but we managed. After that perfection.

Best Place to Stay in Las Terrenas

Reviewed By M9435HFolgag

This was our 3rd time in Las Terrenas. Las Palmas was the best accommodation that we've ever had. The cottage was very homy, cozy and clean. It had absolutely all accommodations including kitchen utensils. It is only 5 min walk from the beach. Cottages are very private and surrounded by a beautiful garden. Service was superb. Our host made sure that we had all we needed. Unlike most places Las Palmas has room service. I would highly recommend this place.

Good value, kind of strange

Stayed at Villa 24 with my wife and 3 small kids for 4 nights. Pros: - The villa was very nice. Great really. Large, modern, great private pool. Couldn't have asked for anything more. - The price, both of the villa, and food and beverage on site extremely reasonable/ almost underpriced. - Location - close to the airport. Super close to Sosua Beach, Playa Alicia, and very close to Cabarete. We went to Kite Beach for a day. 10 min taxi ride. Awesome day. General note: - From what I can tell there was an old hotel called Sosua Ocean Village which no longer exists. The old pool from that hotel, which has some waterslides, and a little boat shaped bar are still open, but a little run down. Decent shape, but not great. There are pictures on the website of a larger waterpark, and restaurant Laguna. For us at least access to these areas was not included. The pool area we could access, on the eastern edge of Ocean Village Deluxe, also gives you access to the beach. The beach here is strikingly beautiful. But it is not really ideal for spending time in the water. At least while we were there red flags were up the whole time. Very rough surf. This is not a long beach, more a little beachy area surrounded by rocky cliffs. On the western edge of Ocean Village Deluxe, where we checked in, they seem to be building the center of the new Ocean Village Deluxe resort, and you are basically in an active construction site. The pool and restaurant over there are fully under construction. Like bulldozers, the whole nine yards. There is one restaurant that is open, a short walk away, with a big pool next to it, and 3 whirlpools on one side. This restaurant is mostly outdoors, gorgeous, and the food and drink were all very good. But it is the only restaurant. Cons - Hospitality - The staff here were all very nice and friendly, but I kept getting the sense that management and the rules they are told to follow were the impediments to us really getting a sense of hospitality. Some examples - upon check in to the villa, one of the first things we were told was to take pictures of the plates and glasses so we could dispute any charge related to them being missing or broken upon checkout. Weird. You are given a bracelet that you can use to charge things to your room and access some locked gates, etc. We were given a stern warning losing one would result in a $25 charge. At dinner one night we asked for the check without stating we wanting to charge to our room. We were told it was too late once the paper check was presented to switch to a room charge and had to use a credit card. Our stay included breakfast. We were told to bring a paper voucher to the restaurant each morning. One morning we forgot and were not allowed to place our order until I went back to the villa and got the voucher. None of these were huge issues, but altogether just destroyed any sense of us being welcomed to the resort as guests. - The restaurant was listed as opening at 8 and we were able to be sat then, but it seems like the chef does not get in until closer to 8:30. First two mornings it took almost an hour to get our food. Tough with 3 kids. - One morning we were picked up for an excursion at the resort at 8:50. At 8 I walked to the restaurant and asked to order some quick food to go, i.e. a croissant, a bagel. Was told kitchen was closed. I asked if they could drop food at our villa once ready, as long as it was by 8:45 when we had to leave. The food was not ready in time. I got a bunch of WhatsApp messages throughout the day making sure I would sign the invoice for my free breakfast that wasn't delivered in time for us to eat. Not a big deal, but annoying, and I got the sense the person sending the messages was nervous they'd somehow get in trouble if I didnt sign the check. - On departure day, we informed the front desk we were getting picked up by a taxi at 8:15 to make our flight. They asked if they could come by to inspect the villa at 8:15. We explained that would not work since we had to leave. They said they would come at 8. They did not. In the taxi to the airport (around 8:20) I stopped at reception to let them know we were leaving. They tried to convince me to go back to the villa to do the inspection. I told them I had no time and got in the cab and left. Not a great parting experience. - Villa has a dishwasher and washer/dryer but no detergent. There is no store on site, nowhere to buy detergent (or things like suncreen) which would have been a nice convenience. Overall - Really great value. Great location. Despite my complaints listed above, which did irk me, I would come back here assuming the same nightly cost. My kids had a blast. This part of DR is awesome, and we had a great time. Some little tweaks could make Ocean Village Deluxe nearly perfect. My fear is once construction is done it will be out of our budget. But for now...

The place is a dump

Reviewed By marco c

We (family of 4, two adults and 2 teen kids) booked a two night stay at this place, and it definitely was a very big mistake! The room was in dire need of repairs. There were nails sticking out the side of the living room sofa beds (my daughter cut herself with one), stains on curtains and inside the drawers, handles missing from the closet doors with just the screws left over. The bottom of the fridge door was completely rusty. The toilet paper in the bathroom was hanging from a rope, and as cherry on the top, there was even a cockroach near the sink. Moreover, the sofa beds were with no bedding for the kids. There were only two shower towels in the room, and only one mini bottle of shower gel and shampoo. For 4 people. We asked for more towels, and were never delivered. The place is in a nice position, absolutely, but all the rest is a total disgrace

A nice place to stay

We had a great family vacations for Holy Week. We found the rooms to be very confortable and you can have plenty of space for a big family like ours, they all have a freezer and you can ask for the kitchen gas system to be installed if you want to use it. The decoration in the rooms is very tropical and they are very clean and have nice details. Also, the pool is really something to see, kids would want to be in it the whole time! The only thing we were not so happy about was the breakfast, may be there could be more options and the service could be better in that sense.

An Amazing Experience

Reviewed By robkerr2004

I read some of the reviews here and they mention the owners. Well, each property is unique to a different owner or owner(s). So referring to the exact property could help. Personally, I went to the DR to go house hunting and I stayed at Casa Karma (among other properties). This property was wonderful! The trees made the front pool feel very private... there was a nice view of the ocean and the inside decoration was tasteful and blended in well with the nature. The right side (facing the ocean) and the back doesn't have a neighbour and the trees block off direct views to the neighbouring properties. It left a very good impression and the community felt very safe. Two towns and a beach about 10 minutes in each direction and very close to the airport. This property is excellent for people that want the perks of a tropical paradise but also want a sense of privacy. Would definitely stay there again!

The staff at Residencial las Palmeras were great. Emily was always there when ever we needed something or had a question. The Penthouse that we had overlooking the ocean was amazing. I recommend anyone that is going to visit Boca Chica that they stay at this resort. Will definitely make reservations again here.

Amazing place . The best you can find really

This is a wonderful place, the best we ever stayed (and we travelled in domenican republic for 1 month) it's super clean, the rooms are like small apartments as they are so big and spacious. It's nothing like you will find around, fast WiFi as they have fiber, great water pressure and hot water, amazing pool, great outdoor functional kitchen with x2 sinks and cooking hobs and every room has also Air-conditioning and fans. the place is managed by this lovely Italian family who made it up really nice, up to Italian standards, not domenican standards, so it is really the best u can find in las terrenas. It has got a beautiful garden and it is behind gates in a lovely residential secured area 7mins from the beach and from the centre of the city ! I cannot recommend this place enough, happy to answer any questions, we stayed there a few days we didn't want to leave!
