Top 10 Things to do in South Queensferry, United Kingdom (UK)

November 22, 2017 Janean Rudisill

Queensferry, also called South Queensferry or simply "The Ferry", is a town to the west of Edinburgh, Scotland, traditionally a royal burgh of West Lothian. It lies some ten miles to the north-west of Edinburgh city centre, on the shore of the Firth of Forth between the Forth Bridge, Forth Road Bridge and the Queensferry Crossing. The prefix South serves to distinguish it from North Queensferry, on the opposite shore of the Forth. Both towns derive their name from the ferry service established by Queen Margaret in the 11th century, which continued to operate at the town until 1964, when the Road Bridge was opened.

This is just such a great tour and the commentary very interesting. The cream tea was a lovely surprise. sailed on Sat 17th Feb and we were lucky to have a nice sunny day. WE both said when next in Edinburgh we will do this trip again.
Oh yes....the CHEESE....When we boarded the boat, someone must have hidden a large quantity of gorgonzola cheese! The smell, phew! That or who ever left the boat prior to us boarding must have the record for the worlds smelliest feet.
Think some air fresh would have been welcomed.
All said, a great trip.

To see the three bridge, each of them so impressive in their own right, lined up together was simply amazing. Such an incredible vista which was absolutely worth the drive from Edinburgh.
And such a lovely little village at the foot of the Bridges. Couple of lovely Inns there if you want to stop and some great history too.

We visited at the end of October 2017 for my Stag do of 9 people and a good few hours was had by all! The go Karting session ran smoothly and the staff were professional.
I booked a few months prior to the event and dealt mainly with Glen who had everything organised perfectly. The track was a decent size and the Go Karts were a lot faster than expected. The site was easy to find and everything ran smoothly. I would strongly recommend Xtreme Karting to anyone!

North Queensferry Harbour Light Tower

Reviewed By fred_cameron - Comox, Canada

We were in North Queensferry mainly to see the Forth Bridge and to experience taking the newest road bridge ("Queensferry Crossing").
Wandering out towards the pier we came across the Harbour Light Tower. It is very small but quite charming.
It was a blustery day in mid-September and, with few other tourists around, we had the tower to ourselves for a few minutes.
It is probably not worth a visit to North Queensferry just for the tower. But if you are there for something else, you should check it out.
We found free on-street parking nearby. In peak season, parking could be a problem.

Steve was absolutely amazing in creating a tour that satisfied all of us! While throwing in a couple of other movie references as well. His knowledge of Scotland history and the stories he told on our journeys brought Scotland's history to life. Everything was fascinating and he was always ready to answer any question we had. Thank you Steve, for the best two days of our trip!!

Inchcolm Abbey and Island

Inchcolm Abbey was established on this island originally as a priory by David I in 1235. It is the best-preserved group of monastic buildings in Scotland. It was the dream of Alexander I to establish a monastery on the island after he sheltered on it during a storm. But following his death, it was his brother David I who invited Augustinian canons to establish a priory, which was later given full abbey status. The abbey has a dramatic location which you can see from the boat before you arrive on the island. The medieval stone screens inside the belltower are rare survivals of medieval church fixtures and the 13th century well-painting is a rare medieval fresco. The island is also famed for its seals, wildlife and coastal defences from the two world wars.

Reviewed By annemarie m - Edinburgh, United Kingdom

We visited this island by boat from South Queensferry and were given ample time to explore it on this trip. It has lovely views of Edinburgh and Fife and it is interesting to see these places from a different perspective. Inchcolm island has the cutest, smallest harbour I have ever seen! There were nice ruins to explore also and you could walk around the island no bother at all.. A fun family day out and a boat ride if you like boats!
