The Tea-Tree Gallery & Ms Mermaids Tea Rooms

This is a cafe combined with an art gallery, shopfront for local artists and swcond hand book shop. The food is simple but well prepared with a huge range of teas. The art is reasonably priced and good quality second handbooks very cheap. Lovely setting as it is a converted old house so each room is a themed sitting area for the cafe.

We visited Ms Mermaids Tea Rooms for a Saturday morning coffee and eats. Being a windy day (typical weather for Portland wind-farms) we sat on the front veranda that was convenient shelter where we were able to view the pretty rose bushes prolifically covered in summer flowers, and while traffic crawled along the main street.
We noted several rooms with art displays but felt the art-work encroached upon the viewer. Also we noted rooms with retro chrome and laminex kitchen furniture that seemed to be out-of-character.
I tried the flat white coffee and a 10 cm diameter caralmelised pecan tart, which was pleasant and satisfying. My adult daughter had a pot of green tea which tasted nice but it was not very hot.

Recommended to eat at this hotel by motel I was staying at.
The bistro is very nice and clean. There is no table service at all. You need to order your meal at the bar which is bought out to you. The 3 girls behind the bar did nothing except serve you at the counter, bring your meals and eat there own food. The staff did not collect empty glasses and huddled behind the bar talking. There were 2 or 3 drunk locals in the front bar who were swearing and could be easily heard in the bistro and were not spoken to.
Its a shame the staff dont offer you drinks etc whilst at the table eating as it was not as though they were busy.
Food was very nice.

We have just had a very delightful meal at Edwards. The service is spot on with great attention to detail. We had the fresh Calamari served with a salad and a large serving of fresh Port Arlington mussels accompanied by a lovely local wine. What a great place to eat in Portland.

This is one of my favourite places in Portland when visiting which is becoming more and more often due to a great balance of coffee, food, service and ambience.
Small cafe but with extra Seating in an adjacent type hall which is full of character and over 100 years old.
Coffee is great and on par with most Melbourne cafes, food is fresh and all home made with passion which is quickly apparent with your 1st bite.
Great location in town and short stroll to waters edge where you may catch a glimpse of a whale or two.
P.S don’t forget to try one of their sweets.

Visited Cape Nelson lighthouse on that day. It was very cold and windy. After a wonderful walk we walked into the cafe for coffee and dessert. My kid had the sticky date pudding and hubby flat white coffee and me long black. Dessert is good but my long black coffee not only looked horrible (I make better looking one in my kitchen) when it came out and it tasted terrible. Not sure what sort of coffee bean u use but it's awful. My coffee was so weak!! So much room for improvement! We pay good money we do expect decent coffee!

SeaView Indian Traditional Restaurant

My colleague and I recently had food at this restaurant and having experienced many Indian / Punjab restaurants this was sadly at the bottom of the list. Service was ok though the food was disappointing. The Pappadums quite average had much better. The raita was ok not bad as was the Lamb Rogan Josh quite tasty. The chicken Vindaloo was mmmm bland! Yes bland a vindaloo should be quite spicy full of flavour I usually order it Indian hot as I like it quite hot but as I had a colleague sharing it I didnt want it too hot but this was ridiculously bland for a vindaloo no spice what so ever. Lastly I talked up (to my colleague) ordering a Dahl as I have had many different variations of this wonderful vegetarian dish. There was only one type of Dahl on the menu so I ordered it - bad mistake! It was gritty and the worst Dahl I have ever had no flavour and quite weird tasting really. Sorry but hit and miss with the food in this place but mostly miss!

welcoming staff and the food was ok. The owner was very surprised that we had found the place. It seemed like only the locals eat there. ( they had an all you can eat option that evening - so they came out of the woodwork ).
If you have to stay in Portland this is where id eat !

Food was delicious. It was a little slower than we are used to from our hometown however we were not in a hurry and the food made up for it. I had the mixed plate that had both savory and sweet and was delicious. A lot bigger than I thought but I polished it all off. Great eclectic style with mismatch of furniture and bits and pieces everywhere. Would recommend this place for breakfast. I imagine at other times it would be equally as good.

Mac's Restaurant

Contacted the Mac’s enquiring about Christmas lunch. The lady quickly confirmed that they would be open for Christmas lunch, and returned briefly with the Reservations book. She then asked whether the time I was requesting was 7pm. I asserted I was booking for Christmas lunch. She accepted a midday booking and ended the call. Fortunately a concerned member of our group called to confirm this day and time, only to be told the Mac’s was not open for Christmas lunch. Confused at the error, the lady said she was pretty sure it was closed but would need to call back. Bookings, no matter what the size or frequency are important, and Christmas Day especially so. Having been met with confusion when booking there before, they are often flustered, possibly inundated. As dining options over the festive season are limited, I’m glad we found out in advance, but disappointed we couldn’t trust Reservations in the first place.

What a fantastic gem. We stumbled on this place by accident and my stomach decided it didn't want to go any further before we ate. It was FANTASTIC! All four of us greatly enjoyed our food. It was very cheap and very very good quality. Friendly staff and very happy. The one (very very tiny) fault was that the only table has 3 chairs - and there were 4 of us. It was a brilliant meal though and I highly recommend the steak burger with the lot!
