Hartbeespoort, informally also known as "Harties", is a small resort town in the North West Province of South Africa, situated on slopes of the Magaliesberg mountain and the banks of the Hartbeespoort Dam. The name of the town means "gateway of the hartbees" (a species of antelope) in Afrikaans. It was previously known as Schoemansville, named after General Hendrik Schoeman, a Boer General in the Anglo-Boer War, who owned the farm that the Hartbeespoort Dam was built on.

The breakfast at the Windmill restaurant was excellent with great service. Followed by a visit to the incredible Jasmyn food store. Fantastic fresh veggies and fruit with a helpful deli at unbelievable prices. The staff are so obliging and attentive. A Wow experience.

We did a Sunday lunch cruise with the family in December. I was very surprised and impressed with the quality of the buffet as well as the quality of service. Definitely worth it and will do it again!

We took the private tour which allowed for some access to otherwise restricted areas. Also our guide had beer for us and meat to feed the animals which were literally climbing on our vehicle. Definitely worth it even if it was quite more expensive than a standard tour.

They are conserving both cheetah and wild dogs. The latter is particularly threatened so this work is very important Two safari type trips a day which are both entertaining and very informative. Book our Sail Away Catamaran for any private functions. The catamaran is perfect for family time, engagement parties, bachelorette parties, private charter, family outings, corporate meetings and any type of private function and celebrations. The boat offers a highly experienced and well trained crew. They take pride in superb service as well as certified safety features.

De Wildt is just outside Brits and Hartbeespoort dam in NW province and easy to find. With our visit it was fairly busy, but were helpd quickly and a map of the 4x4 trail was handed to us. The trail is sometimes challenging, but there is escape routes along the way. Enjoy a braai at the reception area. Grounds, Gardens and facilities are well kept and there is also a cash bar available. Really enjoyed it at De Wildt. Camping also available.

Booking and getting there was easy. About 45 minutes out of Johannesburg. We were greeted by a friendly man who I presume is the owner. The skipper was less friendly but that had no impact on our enjoyment. We waited for a few latecomers to arrive so didn't depart on time but given the relaxed nature of the cruise it didn't pose any problems for us. The wind was quite chilly on the morning we went but there is nowhere to escape it once you get going so make sure you dress appropriately. There are toilets on board but they looked fairy rudimentary so should probably only be used in an emergency. The boat appears to be well looked after. There were lots of comfortable places to sit. My two kids (under four) thoroughly enjoyed the cruise but I had to remain vigilant because there are a few places they would be able to slip overboard if they weren't being monitored. Overall - a really good excursion and I would definitely recommend.
