Parco di Monza

Reviewed By Gene J - Silver Spring, Maryland

We walked ~ 5 miles this morning beginning at the Royal Villa near our Thea Monza Bed and Luxury Hotel. We passed by the elevated lake to numerous 18th C villas, the Monza Race Track, barns with a dinosaur exhibit, thru the woodlands, passing the Royal Villa and into the Old City. What a beautiful morning, joining scores of other locals exercising, walking their dogs or just strolling in this ~1700 acre protected enclave.

Basilica di Agliate

St.Peter and Paul Basilica in Agliate, with its Baptistery is one of the most ancient examples of the Romanesque Age art in Lombardy. It probably dates back to the first half of the XIth Century.
Inside, the church with nave and two aisles, has a woodden roofing and reveals, under the floor, a crypt and parts of more ancient buildings of the Vth century.

My Duomo, the place I call home, I fell in love with the facade about five years ago and have gone back many times, to pray, to pause and even to take selfies. This place is magical (though you will freeze your socks off during Christmas mass) so wear layers on your layers!

Roseto Niso Fumagalli

The rose garden 'Niso Fumagalli' is a private structure, managed by Associazione Italiana della Rosa. Visits to the rose garden are free and, during the blossoming season, the opening time is extended to Saurdays and Sundays. The updated opening times can be found on the Association web site.

This is a well laid out rose garden near the Villa Reale. It is a very romantic setting with lots of beautiful scents and colours. Our only disappointment is that we missed the garden when it was in full bloom (mid May) but there were sufficient blooms on display for us to have a wonderful visit.
Loved the Fountains and the Water Features.

The treasure of Monza Cathedral is amazing. It is one of the most important of this kind in Europe. The musuem have an excellent collection of late antique and early medieval works of various kinds.
It is also the house of the Theodelinda's treasure: the crown and cross of Theodelinda, the Hen with chicks and many others artifacts dated to Longobard time.
This museum is a must to see!!!

Autodromo Nazionale Monza

Since 1922 up until today, memorable pages of motor racing and motorcycling history have been written on the Monza Circuit. The best drivers, the most famous cars, the most important events have created a special legend which has existed for almost 100 years. Autodromo Nazionale Monza is placed within Monza Park which belongs to the cities of Monza and Milan. Monza Circuit was built in 1922, in only 110 days, both for competitions and for motor (auto & motor cycle) testing (Brooklands was built in 1907 and Indianapolis in 1909). Since then, the Italian Grand Prix has always taken place on the Monza track (except during the war years and a few other occasions). The location of the Circuit in Monza Park, is unique in the world. This natural setting is both attractive and delightful. Its location favours the organisation of events and meeting in open areas for exibitions, entertainment and music and supported by internal structures, as a restaurant with 350 places, a 160-person self-service and 2 bars, one bank counter and one information office which are open during the main events. Moreover there are sport and technical shops and a specialized bookstore with international and rare editions. The park offers also other facilities as swimming pool, camping, 18-hole golf course, manège and bicycle rental.

Firstly I am not a car fan and although my husband is he is not into motor racing. However we have so enjoyed the open weekends at the track this September. WE are fortunate enough to have the loan of our Italian neighbours apartment in Monza so spent a lot of time walking in the beautiful park.
During this trip we attended a Mercedes weekend in mid September and then more Recently the GT Open. It was all free ! We were able to sit in any of the stands to watch the races, go into the paddock area ( not the pits) and generally had a great time. We returned on Sunday with a picnic and spent 5 hours there.
It wasn't at all busy and was a great intro to motor racing for a novice.
There were no franchising outlets for refreshments though but luckily we came prepared.
It's a fabulous setting .

Mi sono recata presso la gelateria meleverde un sabato sera con degli amici.
L'indecisione tra i gusti era parecchia. Gusti delicati e buoni.
Io consiglio d'estate
