We ate breakfast there on two occasions, connected to the Gran Hotel. Most everything contained sugar, no plain yoghart and no breakfast cereal or meuseli. As a result there was very little I could eat. We also had dinner there once. My girl friend ordered the chicken and mashed potatoes. I ordered spinach ravioli. Neither was particularly enjoyable. Our friends ordered pizza which they said was to their satisfaction. Ambiance was good and chairs were comfortable. Service was OK. Try the ice cream shop on the corner for desert. Unfortunately I never found a better restaurant in Mercedes I could recommend.

Fica à beira do rio Negro, em formato de choupana. Pode-se beber cervejas, comer petiscos ou partir para almoço/jantar com boas opções de carnes e saladas. Atendimento simpático. Não é dos mais baratos, mas vale a pena.

Compared with La Churrasquera this is rather more upmarket and deserves to be numero uno in a town with very few eateries. Good service, food excellent, clean toilets with soap and paper towels. The chicken we had was great, side salad good too.

We went to this central place to drop our luggage while looking for a hotel, so we ordered coffee first. We got two different menu's: one without spaces between words (????) and the other one with higher prices for everything. The waiter obviously never so the problem and told us the cheeper one was old...
Since they were out of apple pie we ordered apple pancake for €9,-: it was very small so extremely expensive.
When I went to the bathroom it turned out to be at the hotel next door which serves breakfast here. No toilet paper and no lock on the door. So I went to the hotel receptionist. He said the toilet belongs to the bar so I had to go there. So I saw the hotel bathroom and wanted to go there. 'No no, this is for hotel guests, go to the bar!' Oke.... So I did and after a while the waiter got paper and went with me to the bathroom. Still no lock: ' oh, just close the door'...
We asked for the bill aid paid with Visa: the bill was correct. But on the Credit card machine you can not see the amount you pay. We did not check the note from the machine and later on we found out they had added a service charge without asking. The coffee was oke but the service was extremely slow, not nice ('can we leave out luggage here for a moment' , 'you have to ask the bartender'), oh, and by the way: we do speak quite some spanish, I don't know if it's worse when you don't.
Anyhow, I recommand you not to go there. And the receptionist at the Gran hotel Briska Del Hum, one of the most expensive in town, obviously acted as a jerk aswell. We are now in Hotel Colon, kind of worn down but with nice personel and half the price.

One large entrecotte, one skewer kebab with salad and fries, half a bottle of decent red wine for 900 pesos. Friendly service. Basic decor so don't expect the Ritz but it's currently No. 2 in the restaurant list for this city and I think this is worthy of this accolade.
Downside is the toilet. No soap, no paper towels, inexcusable. As for the squat toilet, I fortunately didn't need to use it.

Cafe with an ice-cream parlor, hot dishes as well as sandwiches and desserts. Generous portions, very fresh, pleasant staff. On a corner on the main square in the town. There really aren't many choices in town and this is definitely the best cafe.
