Nnamjagbarwa Mountain

Reviewed By tensaisimon - Beijing, China

We joined a bus tour to the Great Canyon of Yarlon Tsangpo. From certain points we were told to watch the Nnamijabarwa Peak. But as the mountain was covered by cloud and mist, we could not see anything halfway up. Then for a very brief moment cloulds gave way and there she was, the Peak stood like a colossal pyramid over the clouds, glowing with white snow and golden Sunshine. Majestic, exilarating and mysterious. Then in a few seconds it was covered again by mist. We were not even able to snatch a photo. That experience made us understand why she is called a Sacred one, and why we saw faithful local Tibetans kneel and kowtow towards her.

Lulang Forest

It was an interesting drive to get there from Bayi. National road 318 snaked to the left, right and upwards reaching a snow covered high before descending again.
When you get to the viewing platform you will see why it is called the "forest sea" in China - nestled between the mountainous peaks is the vast expanse of trees.
A bit further along the road, in the direction of Sichuan province, is another scenic spot where you can see the valley floor with pastures and some houses.
It's a nice trip and you see a different facet of Tibet. Best to go in the warmer months as it was a bit frosty in April

Giant Cypress Nature Reserve of Bajie, Nyingchi

Huge cypress trees cover an area of 10 hectares on a mountain slope 3,040m above sea level. The largest cypress is famed as 'the Best of Chinese Cypress' with the height of 52m and trunk diameter of 5.8m. It is over 2,600 years old now and is named as King of the World's Cypress. Legend has it that the tree is the soul of the Bon ancestor Tonpa Shenrab Miwoche and is called "the God of Tree" by Tibetans. There are winding paths in the wood, pavilions and ecological protection facilities. Good for a walk in the wood and/or meditate below the King Cypress.

I enjoyed Kadinggou because I have a tour guide who patiently take photo and explain to us where the interesting attractions are. It is hard or impossible to see them without her help. The air is fresh and cool in the mid of September.

After a looonnngggg drive from Lhasa (8+hrs) we were glad to arrive but damn it was the most overrated 'natural reserve/museum' there can be.
It was on top of a mountain by Linzhi town but it was quite man-made, the only animals we saw was the black wild pigs/boars and 2 heifers.
The museum was dead, and the taxidermy of the animals in the museum is just plain weird. Not worth the entry tix (I think it was 120rmb?)
We stayed there for almost an hr but it was an hr too long...
