Fresh air with beautiful scenery, specially on autumn. Since I love outdoors, it feels great able to go outdoor near Tokyo. But since it's autumn and everyone wanted to see the autumn foliage, it was crowded. I went there on Friday, still crowded, everything had to wait in line. I waited 45 min just to ride the cable car. But it's alright for me, cause I really wanted to see the autumn foliage in the there.

I visited on Sunday 19th of November.I arrived via Tachikawa station but as has been said before NishiTachikawa station is more convenient.
There are very few leaves left on the gingko trees.I have learnt that autumnal gingko trees are stinky.
It was dogs day and there were many , many dogs with their devoted owners enjoying the garden.
The highlights for me were the Japanese garden with nice autumn colored maples and the bonsai garden.Dont miss the fingered citron bonsai.Like a big lemon with 6+ "fingers"
There is also a small dahlia garden with dahlias flowering now.

We took the little train for 310 yen.It tends to go around the periphery for some of the route so not so scenic but saves the leg.As has been said this park is absolutely enormous but flat and no steps so wheelchair friendly.
Good play areas for children.
Bring food because, surprisingly, there isn't much available.

A wonderland with a great deal of attraction centred around Hello Kitty . very popular amongst kids as well as teenagers.
Visitors can meet popular characters like Hello Kitty , My Melody. They can also watch the characters perform in musicals, parades, and other attractions.

Moti Town has Ito Yokado as its anchor store along with decent specialty shops. Ito Yokado has its food section on the basement and a Seven Cafe on the first floor near the north entrance.

The chairlift will take you to the middle of the mountain and you have to hike to the top of the mountain. On the way up, you will get to enjoy the scenes around you. We took the chairlift so we didn't have to hike that long to get to the top.

Takahata-fudo is a Buddhist temple of Shingon sect, We visited the temple to attend a yagya fire ceremony that the monks at the temple do. Many people were dressed in traditional clothes and it was more personal as this was not so much of a tourist temple.
Takahata-fudo temple was founded in the late 9th century by Priest En'nin according to Emperor Seiwa's wish.
It is enshrined the Fudo-myoo which is one of the Five Wisdom Kings.
Niomon (the main gate) and Fudodou (the main temple) were built in the 14-15th centuries, and many Buddhist statues housing in the buildings were made in the 10-15th centuries.

Traveling to Takao-san from central Tokyo is simple enough on the Keio line, but illustrates why the correct response to someone who tells you that they live in Tokyo is "Do you mean central Tokyo?". The greater metro area (read: province) includes vast suburbs and even much rural area on its western extreme, where Mt. Takao is located. Many people who say they live in Tokyo live in a more rural area than you!
The mountain has several hiking trails, a cable car and chair lift to get up and an interesting temple devoted to Tengu, which you don't get to see everywhere, and a monkey park which interests the kids. If you have young children with you, it might be better to take the cable car up and the trails down (we did this, and our youngest still slept like a baby that evening).
Takao-san is a good day trip from Shinjuku, but another good option with kids that isn't quite as far is Showa Kinen Koen in Tachikawa, a vast open area with a Children's section that has a climbing net structure that will hold their attention for hours. Bring a soccer ball or frisbee -- there is lots of space to play.
But if you are not burdened with youngsters and are looking for a more serious climbing experience, I would recommend taking the Azusa train from Shinjuku to Matsumoto and try some real trekking in places such as Kamikochi in the Japan Alps.

The Keio Rail Land museum re-opened on Oct 10 2013 . It offers fun for young children including train simulators, Conductor simulator, a ball pit, toy railtrack to lay out , a diorama and a mini train outdoors to ride on.
For rail enthusiasts there is 1 board with a few highlights of the Keio company's 100 year history. a cabinet with some old uniforms, a full scale example of a pantograph, a cutaway electric engine.
Outdoors there are 6 Keio line railcars of various vintages but with only a couple of paragraphs of information.
Zero English. ( not even on the ticket machine)

The Buddhist temple located on the trail to the top of Mt. Takao, and near the cable car station so usually people come to there to pray by the cable car. It was established in 744. The praying pavillion was chic design, but the gate and the main pavillion were painted at colorful colors.
