Fira de Tots Sants

Reviewed By kht1468 - Spain

This is the second time we have been, the first being a few years back now, but the town seems even more organised with information points and brochures with maps and information in several languages.
Parking is fairly easy - we went on the Monday as last time the weekend was totally rammed full of people, but there are several car parks within an easy walk.
The fair is well laid out with lots to see and do - but do be a little careful with the very very tempting eating sections. While the smaller booths provide food at a relatively reasonable price, it is very easy to get sucked into sitting and eating at one of the very large areas - where no menu is given, but if you ask you can go and see a tiny menu, printed off and stuck up quite hig, so not very legible... then you can see that most of the racions are around the 16€ - 20€ mark, a plate of patatas bravas is 10€, most drinks start from 2€ upwards.....
IN short, we watched a table of 3 people, who had 5 drinks and 3 plates of food pay over 90€ for their meals. I know of others who have also fallen pray to this, and it does now state in the brochure advising that you ask the price of food before you order it!!! I would add that it is possible if you walk a short distance out of the main restauranty bit of the fair its fairly easy to get something within a normal price range.
This was the only down side I could think of - the rest is amazing and an experience that you should definitely see.

Portal de la Marina

An universe of fun and shopping. A building of 90,000 square meters, bringing together the leading names in fashion and accessories, services, specialized shops, home items and decor, restaurants, leisure, food and a giant Hypermarket. PORTAL DE LA MARINA is conceived as a shopping center that clearly reflects the Mediterranean character, custom-tailored to the needs of the area. The complex has been designed to try to capture the magical, mysterious effect of the streets in the cities of southeastern Spain. In short, PORTAL DE LA MARINA is a synonym for innovation, not only for its original appearance but also for the new elements it introduces in the technical and conceptual fields.

Macizo del Montgo Natural Park

The park has numerous hiking trails and a lot are fairly easy going. You can of course attempt to climb Montgo mountain but a much shorter and easier route is the trail leading up from Javea port area to the lighthouse headland, from where you can look across to Ibiza island. If hiking on the far side of the Denia/Javea road then you’ll get great views inland and along the coast in both directions, although you will need to keep an eye open for frequent piles of dog mesh:-( Regardless of your fitness level I strongly suggest wearing appropriate footwear and taking water.

Montgo Natural Park

Reviewed By nnmercman - Camberley, United Kingdom

Numerous trail options as well as beautiful views from all around. It’s an easy hike up along the trail from marina to Cabo headland but there are choices as to difficulty and around the headland it’s reasonably flat - Montgo hill (mountain?) with its rock formations and caves is much more of a challenge at around 2500ft - where numerous access trails are on the inland side of the CV-736 Javea/Denia road. There is the usual “hiker beware” of dog mess which seems to litter everywhere you walk in Spain - really disgusting and spoils the general ambience of hiking as you have to pay more attention to the trail than the views!

Prehistoric Cave Cueva de las Calaveras

Reviewed By David M - Glasgow, United Kingdom

We're so used to paying for EVERYTHING now that nobody really thinks about handing over a few Euros to see an attraction, but if you think about it, this is a cave that has been here for millions of years, and only in the past few decades would people have actually had to pay to enter the thing.
That said, it is an interesting cave to visit and well worth it, if you are interested in the local geology, and even a few hints at anthropological history too. There are interesting stalactites to see, and some interesting info along the way. There is also a quaint gift shop and cafe you can use to have a breather.
Downsides are that I feel the company charging for entry could really do more to make the tour interesting. Many of the lights were broken, and no real thought given to artistically lighting up rock formations. It seems like they have found themselves a cave and put up a dozen small, dimly lit information boards in order to justify a charge for entry. There was also some really interesting stuff going on right at the end, but it was so dark it was nearly impossible to see. I was having to lend people my iPhone torch at the end!
It was fine for us, as we were after a gentle 'first day of the holiday' activity, and we also didn't have to travel far to get there. If you're having to travel more than an hour to get here, or you're looking to make a day of it, I'd say this is probably not for you.

This is an amazing nature reserve, next to the motorway A7, about 1400 hectares, filled with water, rivers and marshes, full with all kind of birds (all types of egrets, kingfishers!) and a lovely place to spend a few hours birdwatching, enjoying the exciting reeds of 5-6 m high and spot the enormous quantity of fish movements. Adjacent is a large area of rice growing. Keep out during the hunting season by the way....!

We spent a really interesting and informative time at El Sueno Jardin Botanico.
The owners are expert and passionate about their subject of cacti, succulents and other exotic plants, shrubs and trees. We experienced a personal guided tour that takes about two hours in the garden which is like a mini "Kew Gardens' with quirky and creative touches. A cool arbour for sunny weather and a small bodega to sample local wine add to the interest. Even in winter there are flowers and sculptural forms that invite you to stay longer.

Pretty little church right in the heart of Catral...
Looks like it's recently been renovated on outside at least ..... But.... I can't get inside to view the interior & look for a few moments rest & quiet!!
Nice clock & 'Bell Tower' overlooking some nice looking cafes in the nearby square..
I think overall It all looks a little 'forlorn'
