Restaurant Le Murenberg

Reviewed By Theoph - Switzerland

Melanie and Denis Schmidt, as Swiss/Alsatian, couple opened this restaurant four months ago. They have things very well honed, and leMurenberg is definitely worth visiting. The food was outstanding on the slow August evening we visited, the service friendly and the wines personal, coming in some cases (Riesling and Muscat) from M Schmidt's cousin's vineyard. The two of us had the three-course menu surprise, consisting of an excellent fish carpaccio first course and a main course tailored to our individual desires (fish/meat) and an imaginative fruit dominated mille feulle dessert. It is unusual to get bavette (skirt) in Switzerland, and this would make any French chef proud, as would the amuse bouche, which so often just a formality. Ullli10’s Tripadvisor’s review of 28 May is spot on. The total bill of CHF 200 meant that the quality/cost ratio was good. This couple deserves to succeed.

Gasthaus zur Blume

Reviewed By cuzeng - Glasgow, United Kingdom

I and my family visited family for a wedding and stayed three nights at Guest House Blume. As a family who speak very little German, never mind Swiss German, we were made very welcome. We stayed in room 2 on the first floor, a large room with a massive double bed and a sofa bed for my kids. The room was nice and clean, and we all slept well.
As for the food, yes indeed it grub is top notch. The salad to start was the very best salad I've ever had but it was perhaps a little on the large side but I just couldn't leave any! The menu is wide and there was plenty of choice. The place was packed morning, noon and night, due in the main to the fact the place still allows smoking in the wooden side of he bar and although I'm a non smoker it didn't bother me too much.
You will be made welcome by the manager and this really is a family place with the old man still wandering about the place. It has a nice feel to it and although it's not a big tourist area the whole area, Magden, Nushoff, Wintersingen, Sisacc, etc is a nice place to visit any time of year.

We had an excellent time at the Landgasthof Farnsburg. This restaurant serves fresh organic food, all home made and really high quality. They have a gigantic wine cellar which you can visit and pick your wine. The service was outstanding, and they are very attentive to kids. Overall we had a really great night and will make sure to visit more often.

We celebrated this year’s business Christmas dinner at the Osteria Tre.
The restaurant is about 25 minutes SE of Basel and easy to reach by car, though parking space is rare sometimes. Access with public transport is feasible however cumbersome.
There is a bar where we could have our apéros until the table was ready.
The restaurant was very full on a Tuesday night, everybody gathering for business Christmas dinners.
We had a 4 course special dinner menu by the Chef, which was really, really good. The service was very attentive and very nice as well. The menu came with a professional wine selection and some explanation.
Though this is not a cheap place to eat I really enjoyed being here.

We have eaten at Bad Bubendorf twice now and found the restaurant to be very appealing to the eye but disappointing to the palette. Based on Kantonsstrasse it has a prime position and attracts a large number of diners. The restaurant itself is very attractive, a pleasing contrast of old and new, blended together in the summer with ample outside Seating in a lush green setting and a wintergarten that is very light and airy for the cooler seasons.
We have visited the restaurant on two occasions and whilst service has been great, the overall impression was that the food was disappointing. Our impression is that some of the plates have two many flavour combinations making the dishes somewhat confused and on the last occasion when I chose Lamb Backli from the regular menu, the meat was served with no colour which made it resemble Veal and the quality of the meat was extremely poor.
No doubt we will try a third visit at sometime in the future but we have eaten better quality at lower prices elsewhere. I get the impression that this restaurant trades on its location.

Restaurant Lowen

The restaurant has recently changed owners. We used to eat dinner here quite regularly and generally had good food and always with excellent, very friendly and attentive service, but we will not be going any longer. I was there with my young daughter yesterday evening for dinner. the service was awful and the food very disappointing. The waiter was extremely unfriendly, in fact quite rude, and when we started shaking his head in disapproval at something, still not sure what, we had done with the oil and vinegar (perhaps, asking for it and dipping our bread in it??) that was the final straw for me and I had to ask him why he was being so impolite and what the problem was. His response was ''it;s so hot''. Well, I'm sorry Loewen, if you have a waiter with heat intolerance then close your Terrace and install A/C inside. Totally sub-optimal.

I strongly recommend this outstanding restaurant. Been there for lunch, in a place where tradition and gourmet cooking are being mixed in an innovative and just delicious way. The staff is friendly, the cook enormously skilled and the ambience great. If you're seeking for special spots, good cuisine and brilliant service thats the place to be! They even arrange a chef's table where u can observe the cook while show cooking and gain an interesting insight in to the art of fine cooking.

Landgasthof Hard

Went their with my family, which includes 3 very small boys. The fact that they offer a separate play room played an important role in the choice of restaurant. Indeed, the staff is very accomodating for families. We had a nice corner location for our large family and the kids disappeared immediately in the play room, which is well stocked with toys. In the meantime we endulged in the extensive menu. There is one page on "Cordon Bleu" only, so that seems to be the speciality. The adults all went for that. Everybody had a different version. The question to the guys, if they want "small" or "large" was an insult. Of course we wanted "large". But OMG, they were huge! I could not finish mine. Even the "small" ones which my daughters had would have been big enough. Also the desserts were huge. A nice evening, good at very reasonable prices. The fact that a few of us had some stomach problems later was probably more to the fact that we had too much food....

Sala Thai

Reviewed By Tony E - Switzerland

We started with the Sala Thai Royal, a selection of dishes including spring rolls, tempura prawns, prawn crackers, meat patties, chicken satay and cauliflower pakoras. A well-balanced selection, nicely cooked and very tasty. We followed this with the crispy duck with ginger sauce, obviously a signature dish of the restaurant as probably as many as half of the guests were ordering the same; it was excellent and the portion was large. The service was extremely friendly and helpful, all Thai, but slow and not very efficient. I was drinking beer, and I had to order each glass twice before they finally arrived. I can accept the long gaps between courses, as the food is cooked fresh, but the long wait to order and the wait for the bill can't be excused in the same way. The restaurant is small and it was busy, but as this is apparently always the case it's time they added more staff. So, a strong recommendation for the food, but only if you have time on your hands. The price was close to the upper limit of what one would expect to pay for Thai food in Switzerland, but so was the quality.

We did not have Reservations but were seated upstairs.in a very nice refurbished room.
This is a family run place so hospitality is written in big letters. The menu is quite varied with anything from beef to vegetarian. They have a number of different cordon-bleus and on request made with veal (pork being the norm). Extra wishes no problem. Very nice wine list also. The ambiance is pleasantly rustic. Pricing is reasonable and portions are more than satisfying. Definitely worth a visit.
