Ramenoyaji

Passed by Machida on the way back from an Enoshima & Kamakura day trip from our base in Kakio. This is a low key establishment frequented mainly by locals. Wife and I were the only visitors dining at Oyaji on that Saturday. We had two slightly different ramens, their signature miso broth ramen and another miso and shoyu broth ramen, I think. This is my wife's favourite ramen joint of all the places she's tasted across Tokyo. We'll definitely be back for some in the near future.

This is very famous Ramen shop in Machida. I thought it would open at 12:00 but on Saturdays and Sundays, it opens at 11:30 a.m. So on a Saturday when I arrived there at 11::45 a.m. It took me 50 minutes in total to wait in line outside ,standing and again inside sitting after buying tickets and again sitting near the counter before the first bite of delicious ramen and the soup. US$7.75 is OK for the taste but 50 minutes were too much.

This is a tiny "curry house" having only 7 counter seats, located in a bazar type street vendor's stalls gatherings. You need few minutes walk from Odakyu Machida station. I arrived there at 11 a.m. 30 minutes before the opening time on a Saturday. I was the first in line then at 11:15 a couple came and at 11:20 a second came and at 11:25 a third thus at the opening all the 7 seats were occupied. When I finished and went out, I saw 11 people were in line. US$12 pork cutlet with curry & rice, their speciality was slightly expensive than average and the volume was smaller than average but it was worth the money. The soup type curry was not so hot but some ingredients
made me sweat afterwards and the taste was good though I cannot explain how. The pork used is famous Koza pork which was first grown when Japan opend its door to foreigners after 300 years for westerners' demand. The original pig was from Yorkshire and improved but once extinct in 1970 defeated by cheaper cometition and revived in 1985. Koza is the old name of the area, southwest t of Machida. I would surely go again to this curry house.

These dumplings are great. Eating them is an experience. It takes practice to eat them without making a mess, but it so worth it. This place is only a stall, no Seating. You stand along the stall to eat, they have a little sauce you can add. The trick is to take a small bit of the outer layer first, drink some of the well flavored broth, then eat the dumpling.

Good taste and reasonable volume. I eat gyouza(fried dumpling meat) and Bang Bang Chicken Salad usually. Sometimes taking out freezed gyouza for our home cooking. 20年以上通っています。 お店で食べるときは焼き餃子+バンバンジーサラダ。時々冷凍の生餃子を買っていき自宅でやります。 包装紙に書いてある料理手順をきっちり守って料理します。

We have never been to a restaurant of this genre or caliper. The staff greets you on the way in like you’re some sort of a superstar. It is teppanyaki style food with a robust price tag, but worth every penny. This was a grand dining experience for my wife and I, as my friend who is a Tokyo local took us there because it;s his favorite restaurant in this huge city. Benehana’s can’t touch this place. The decor is elegant European, they seat you down in front of you own private chef in a classic room and the best food in the world just keeps coming at you straight off the grill. The servers are perfectly dressed, treat you like royalty and in the evening we started off with an exotic lobster appetizer, fresh grilled clam salad, awesome ribeye/New York grilled to perfection and perfectly sliced, dreamy ice cream desserts and a vast selection of cocktails and wine. If you really want to get spoiled, this is he place to go. A one of a kind, fabulous dining experience!
