Don't be put off by the tiny premises, once inside you'll love to death the atmosphere. They can't speak a word of English but we stumbled through. At first we were a little worried, but out came food of such amazing quality we were determined to return the next night, which we did but (o a Tuesday no less - booed out.) We are booking for tomorrow night!!!!! Try the Weiner Schnitzel - fabulous and I had the Schwein Brauten - roast pork knuckle - meat s tender it fell of the bones into the rich brow beer sauce. At the end of the evening - four adult meals, two beers wine and softdrink - $40 Euro!!!!! The food 6 starts and the atmosphere 6 stars too. My only complaint - too hot inside but a small sacrifice!!!! It was amaing.

Visited the restaurant with colleagues. Very good food and beer. Cheap prices. If you want to visit this place at the weekend it's better to make a reservation although there always seems to be space for a stranger :-)

Fantastc seasonal white asparagus with scrambled eggs and hollandaise sauce, and fabulous fresh keg beer. Pils followed by Dunkel. Lots of space for eating outside, and for smokers, with warm gas heaters. The home made apple pies with ice cream were very nice, as was service and espresso coffee. We spent less than €25 per person

Recently we visited Franken and a cousin who lives in Kulmbach. She took us to the Stadtschanke and was a bit disappointed when we arrived to an almost empty place. However by the time we left the place was throbbing. We enjoyed the local beers (they have a special one every evening) and the local cuisine. when you are in the area worthwhile a visit. Beware they don't accept credit or bank cards, cash rules.

Etwas "brummelig"...

Visited this place a few times over the last few years and the menu hasn't changed in all that time, so the food choice is limited. That said what they produce is very nice indeed.
As is usually the case in these places the staff are very friendly and welcoming.
The beer is very good and served to your table by staff in traditional dress, which is a nice touch.
Both indoor and outdoor Seating is available, so I hope you get the weather that lets you use the outdoor tables.
If the food choice were a little more varied, this place would be excellent.

Ital. Restaurant (Familienbetrieb) in einem historischen, innen renovierten, Gebäude. (ehem. Kleines Rathaus)
This place can be a little difficult to find as it is tucked-away off the main streets, but trust me it is worth finding! The exterior and setting is beautiful, as if from a post-card enticing you to visit Kulmbach. Inside the decor is quaint and friendly as is the excellent service. The pizza and pastas were very good, with so many choices (including vegetarian options) that everyone in our group found something to suite their tastes. The pizzas are baked in a wood-fired oven, thin and crisp and delicious. If you want Italian food while in Kulmbach I highly recommend Kleines Rathaus!

Schweizer Hof is a favorite of locals, and based on our visit we understand why. Sitting inside you feel like you are in Germany with traditional yet current decor that is very welcoming and comfortable. Close you eyes, listen to the conversations, smell the food, and all is right with the world. I had a very traditional meal of Hocksun, which was properly grilled, service with dumplings and sauerkraut -- all done perfectly. Service was prompt and the prices were fair. This should be a must-visit if you travel to Kulmbach.

I got the opportunity to call into Roberts for some hot chocolate & cake on 03/10/15 with family.
There was a large outdoor Seating area with shading which was great for sitting & chilling on a sunny day - not so great when you are surrounded by smokers! Inside also has a large Seating area & a very impressive cake display! You need to go up to the display & tell the staff what slice you would like - they will bring this out to you. The staff are very efficient & quick to serve.
Menu was in german so it was lucky for my husband & I that his sister spoke german & her husband is german otherwise we would have struggled. The hot chocolate I ordered was lovely & the plum tart was quite tart (plums were slightly bitter - needed a little sugar) but the pastry was delicious.
Sitting outside Roberts in the sun on a quiet Sunday afternoon was very relaxing & I would recommend stopping by.
