Top 10 restaurants in Hangzhou, China

December 14, 2017 Janean Rudisill

Hangzhou is the capital of Zhejiang Province and one of the seven ancient capitals of China. It was described by Italian traveler Marco Polo as the finest and most luxurious city in the world. The West Lake scenic area contains over 60 cultural relic sites and several attractions of natural beauty, and a cruise on the lake is a good option to view several sites. Hangzhou is also a good place to visit a tea plantation.

The Grandma's Restaurant (Wai Po Jia)

The food itself was ok and is well priced
The service is terrible, we waited for around 1 hour to be seated. When we were finally seated we were sat down next to a table of people who were smoking, we asked to move table but they would not accommodate it.
I think if you go at a time that isn't busy then it won't be a problem but I wouldn't go at a busy time again

LvCha (LongJing Road)

Great find - easy to locate, right along Longjing Road. Housed in a rustic (rather charming) set-up that couldn't decide if it was an outpost in the wild wild west, or a farmhouse in a French countryside.
Packed to the gills when we got there just before 1 pm for lunch - took a number, and waited an easy 20 or so minutes. Used the time to scan (and take photos of what we wanted) the photo menu (especially if you can't figure out the Chinese menu, or don't have an app to scan the QR code at each table to pull out the online menu and place your orders).
We had the:
Jelly fish in vinegar - super sour, and I figured, over-cured.
Toufoo layered with thousand day old eggs (or century eggs) - this was a cold dish, and was super yummy. But only if you like century eggs.
Grilled fish with what could have been cumin and some spices - yummy and recommended.
Roast chicken and roast pork - seasoned with cumin, as well as Sichuan peppers that numb your tongue ("ma la"). Good too.
Toasted cubes of bread served in a bread-loaf type container, with a scoop of ice-cream on top. Interesting but overrated.
Green vegetables - anything green veggie was always good on this China trip.
All you can drink - help yourself - Chinese tea, though there were interesting juices (including young coconut), beer and better Chinese tea.

We went to the restaurant based on TA reviews. And we were not wrong. As we did not stay there, we took a cab to the lobby... Be prepared for quite a walk to find the restaurant. Anyway; we booked for 9 pm, but arrived past 9pm. No problems for them. They do not serve testing menu (we were a party of 2), so we asked the waiter to give us some suggestions. It all worked extremely well. Nice and warm atmosphere, good staff, and delicious food. Wine list as well is pretty good. I will be back

This is Local fine dinning at its best, great ambience for private dinner venue . Especially for those who fancy local Hangzhou cuisine this is a must try but this is a pricey restaurant. The restaurant provides very Great service in China standard, just a bit shy away from Shanghai's. it has a great menu of all the famous local Cuisines , & their serving & presentation are both exquisite & of very high quality.

The restaurant atmosphere and decoration was plain at best.
Service was inattentive and slow even though the place was not crowded. However they were always pleasant and polite.
For appetizers we had the pandan chicken and spring rolls.
However the massaman chicken and the lamb cutles were the true highlights. Highly recommended.

I ate here because I was very tired from a 30000-step day, and the buffet looked appealing with its variety of food. The variety was fabulous, but unfortunately, I became sick about 6 hours after the meal. My gut is a bit sensitive to non-fresh seafood, and there was lots of seafood at this extravagant buffet. While I can't be positive that the food was the cause, it was the only food I had eaten all day, and as a physician, I know my body pretty well. The selections were fabulous: raw seafood, cooked oysters and other shellfish, and every imaginable kind of Chinese and Western food. I hope it's just I'm more sensitive gastrointestinal than others, but I would be aware of the shellfish.

Yin Long is close to the subway station, it also has 1 station for bus and 1 for public bikes.
Bailu is famous for its traditional flavors and also much cheaper than others.
There are a lot of people swarm into the restarant during the meal time, and they don't keep Reservations. You'd better go there earlier.

Haidilao Hot Pot (Yong Jin Plaza)

Reviewed By hlinajs - Slovakia

I ate first time in this restaurant two years ago and it was already great experience. For me the best Hot Pot I have ever had.
During second visit in April.2016 it was even better mainly due to improved service. Nice staff, our waiter entertaining, kids were given a small toys and we a plastic bags to protect mobile phones, as well as wet wipe for cleaning the glasses. Crazy! Which restaurant in Europe would even think about that!
